Looking for similar experiences and suggestions to get me back to normal!! I am 74 and have Celiac Sprue, an autoimmune reaction to wheat gluten all my life. The reaction attacks the villi in the small intestine and results in diarrhea and attendant absorption problems in the small intestine. Fortunately, a 'gluten free' diet keeps me stabilized. In 2009 I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and agreed to the RAI option to kill the thyroid gland. I started on the replacement thyroid hormone Synthroid, but moved immediately to Levothyroxin due to a very bad reaction to Synthroid. It took 3 months to establish a proper dose of 88 mcg/d of Levothyroxin and I continued at that dosage for the next 1 & 1/2 years. In June of 2013, I changed to the "more natural" Armour Thyroid hormone and have had problems ever since - not even being able to establish the proper dosage! The last dosage was alternating days of 60 then 90 mg/d of Armour, but disturbing symptoms continued, so my endocrinologist switch me back to 88 mcg/d on August 20th. I have improved somewhat as my out of body feelings, dizziness, and total attention to just feeling bad have left. However, my memory, mental acuity, energy and stamina have not returned. I also find that I must eat between meals to fill an empty feeling in my stomach and keep my energy from failing. I must wait until September 17th for a meaningful thyroid blood panel. Any suggestions in the meanwhile or am I destined to suffer and wait?
