New here and new to thyroid issues. Sorry in advance for the length. PCP would not listen to me and said, "we don't want to treat normal function..." I requested referral to endo which I received. He can't see me until 4/14.
Background: Grandmother, Mother, sister (10 yrs younger than I) all being treated for hypo. I am age 47 female, overall good health, good diet, regular exercise. Last 6 months: hair thinning, weight gain (15 lbs in 3 months), brain fog (which is my biggest concern), constipation (never an issue before), fatigue (needing nap almost every day) other symptoms: joint pain (knees), leg pain, ringing in ears, hoarse voice, irregular periods (last 3 months) and others.
Most symptoms around for 6 months, have become more acute in last 3-4. Obviously I'm at the perimenopausal age and attributed many of these symptoms to that. Asked OB to run thyroid tests in January to make sure. Below are my past results. I am convinced I am a sub-clinical hypothyroid sufferer- have done A LOT of reading/research on my own.
Here are my labs. I included calcium because I've seen mention on here about calcium levels but not sure if this is right test:
TSH 0.35-4.90 mIU/mL 8/28/07:2.89, 9/25/08: 3.16, 12/7/11: 3.65 , 2/14/14: 4.46
Calcium8.4-10.6 mg/dL 8/28/07: 9.3, 9/25/08: 9.3, 12/7/11: 9.4, 8/28/12: 9.2, 2/14/14: 8.5
Free T4 0.75-1.76 ng/dL 9/25/08:1.04, 2/14/14: 0.93
PCP did order AB tests but said they were normal. My mother in law works in the lab (thank goodness) and told me they were actually high normal:
Component Standard Range Your Value
Thyroperoxidase Ab <9.0 IU/mL 0.5
Thyroglobulin Ab <116 IU/mL <20
So, what I'm looking for is first do some of you experienced folks agree that I could be hypo? And 2nd, how can I convince the endo to treat me? I don't know that he won't, I just know that I am miserable and am barely making it through my job and raising two teenagers. Thanks for the help!
