Hi,
I'm hoping to get some understand of my results and what I should do next. Long story short, I've been ill off and on for years and trying to get to the root of what may or may not be some type of autoimmune issue. My blood work is almost always in normal ranges. The only blood work that has ever come back is an occasional slightly elevated white blood cell count and about three years ago I had a pretty severe B12 deficiency. I also have a "confirmed" dx of IBS. The B12 deficiency has been brought under control and I take daily supplements now.
I have arthritis (I'm 39), IBS, the B12 issues, psoriasis, reactive hypoglycemia, and flares of all my random symptoms which includes a lot of symptoms of hyperthyroid (realizing those symptoms could also relate to a whole lot of other possibilities).
All of that to provide a little background. Last week I went to my gyno for an annual check up and she noticed my thyroid was visibly enlarged and sent me for blood work. I also had a follow up visit with my primary care doctor that same week, she agreed that my thyroid appeared to be enlarged and sent me for an ultrasound while waiting for blood work results. I got an email from my primary doctor yesterday morning (lovely way to start a Sunday morning) with all the results. My blood work is normal (which doesn't surprise me at this point because it always is) and 4 nodules were found on the ultrasound. The end result she put in her email is to rescan in 6-12 months.
Long way of getting to my question- in other's personal experiences is the "wait and rescan in 6-12 months" normal and I shouldn't be concerned or should I request a follow up appointment and maybe a referral to an endocrinologist?
Here are my results:
FT4:1.45 ng/dL
TSH: 0.959 uIU&/ml
Ultrasound:
Right Lobe- Enlarged
Nodules:
1) 0.6 x 1.0 x 1.0 cm
2) 0.3 x 0.5 x 0.7 cm
Left Lobe- Enlarged
1) 0.2 x 0.4 x 0.4 cm
2) 0.4 x 0.5 x 0.8 cm
Any advice as to what next step I should take would be appreciated.
Thanks!
