Hi all, I'm new to this board but not to HW, and was hoping you could offer some advice for my current situation.
I've been dealing with a range of health issues over the last decade and fatigue has been a big part of it. Two years ago, my neurologist gave me a Nuvigil prescription and that was the only thing keeping me moving for awhile. I was taking it every day for at least 18 months but am trying to take it less often now.
I've been at the same weight for about three years, always within a five pound range even when I was unable to work out for months at a time. Then, over the last 6-8 months of 2015, I gained more than 25 pounds. I'm as heavy as I've ever been and don't see any major changes in diet or exercise. So I was talking to my neurologist about this and she ran a thyroid panel. Here are the results.
Free T4: .87
Free T4 index: 1.7
Total T4: 8.7
Free T3: 2.5
T3 uptake: 20
T3 serum: 129
TSH: 1.59
The total T3 is clearly low and the free T3 and free T4 are bordering on low. I know from my reading that just being "average" is not enough and many people have problems even when their TSH is normal. I'm planning to schedule an appointment with an endocrinologist and wanted to know if there's any specific things I should bring up when talking to the doctor, especially in case they are in the "TSH is normal so you're fine" camp.
I've been dealing with some many health frustrations over the years that I want to avoid any additional ones with a new doctor if possible.
Thanks in advance!
