Hello,
15 years ago I went to the dr and had some blood work done because my periods were incredibly irregular. The tests revealed that I had elevated levels of prolactin. My dr then Ordered an MRI. The results of that MRI showed that I had a growth on my pituitary gland. She put me on birth control (Yasmin) and then sent me to an endocrinologist. The endocrinologist did nothing. So, 15 years later, I decided to follow up again with some additional information. I met with my family dr. I asked her about doing another MRI, she consented. I also asked about getting my thyroid fully tested. She shrugged it off and said my problem would either be with my pituitary or my thyroid but not both. But she was happy to have my thyroid tested too. I have been on birth control 90% of the last 15 years. I was on the off week of pills when I did the thyroid test. The results were abnormal. The tech that called said my levels were high and my thyroid was working too hard. She also said that the dr wanted me to retest. I did so within a few days. This time I was on the second week of active birth control pills. The results were normal. Everything I've read says that the pill can alter the thyroid test. Why would the dr not tell me to go off of them while testing? I have all of the symptoms and my sister has hypothyroidism. The dr knows all of this. Am I being pushed aside? Should I push harder and ask for another test while I'm not on birth control?
