Here's the issue; I know that symptoms may be all over the place for different people but I'm getting extremely frustrated and would like to know that I'm not totally crazy.
A little background - about 5 years ago, my body went haywire. Up to that point I had muscle and joint pain/stiffness, etc. that was initially diagnosed as gout. When I developed Bilateral Iritis however, they discovered that my immune system was attacking itself in the form of an autoimmune disorder. (Connective Tissue Disorder? Lupus? Rheumatoid Arthritis?) After several blood tests over the years, I've been relatively sero-negative and thus never received a diagnosis. Just a multitude of systems over the years.
Three years ago it was discovered that I have Thyroid Nodues on both sides. They are relatively large. Large enough that they are visible externally. They measure, right (2.4 x 1.6 x 3.3 cm) left (2.2 x 1.8 x 3.6 cm). However, my thyroid tests are again sero-negative. My TSH and T4 levels are within the normal range. My symptoms, however, point to hypothyroidsm. Here are my symptoms: fatigue, foggy memory, dry skin and scalp, can't seem to lose weight despite reduced calorie intake and walking 2 miles per day, muscle and joint pain and weakness, and irregular period (prolonged bleeding).
I'm frustrated and angry. My PCP and Endocrinologist keep reminding me that surgery is an option. However, they firmly believe that my symptoms cannot be thyroid related as my blood tests are normal. Am I crazy to want answers before having surgery?
