Hey Wolf,
Coincidentally, I used to work in microbreweries/brewpubs about 10 years ago, and during flares too. I can relate to having to test your work along the way. Running a Velo filter requires you to pull off samples at varying intervals, and at 5am it can be a little rough on anyone's gut. Oh but how we adapt! :) Anyway I drank throughout flares back then, but I'm not sure if it exacerbated my symptoms or not by doing so since the flare went away and I never stopped or limited my intake of beer.
I drink a LOT of beer, and I homebrew about 10-20 gallons a month - not that I drink that much of it, but when I flare nowadays, I am cautious with my beer intake. I think it's hit or miss whether it will tear me up or not.
Do you have issues with beer only during flares? Or is it all the time now? I think that you said that you were recently diagnosed. If you are in a flare, try to limit or eliminate beer until you are in remission, and then try again. You might be find that a particular food will cause problems when you are flaring, but not be a problem when you are in remission.
one thing for sure, I can't drink coffee whether in remission or not. Coffee and caffeine are bad news. I'm just glad that it's not alchohol.
