Hello all, I have just been started on Imuran about a week and a half ago. I am currently seeing one primary GI specialist and another one for a second opinion. My primary doc started me off at 100mg and is only requesting blood tests every 2 months. The second opinion doc is saying that I should be at 150mg given my body weight and wants me to have weekly blood tests.

I'm very confused on what I should be doing? Currently at 100mg I don't think I'm feeling any side effects of the Imuran although I'm also not getting any closer to remission. I know I've read that it takes a long time for imuran to kick in but I've just been in a flare for a long time and am desperate to get things out of control. My question is for those who are one imuran what type of doses are you one and how often is your blood tested?

Started on 50mg a week ago. Will get result of enzym blood test next week and, if ok, will move up to 150mg.
Weekly blood tests for first 3 months then monthly.
I think that's pretty standard here in the UK.

started at 100mg for two weeks then 200 mg since then.

I had weekly blood tests for 4 weeks, then monthly for 3 months and I think I will be going every three months after my next blood test.......I forget and need to look back at my notes.

I started on 100mg for 1 week and have been on 175mg since.  I've had weekly blood tests for the first month, then plan on once a month.  The GI specialist said that the dosage I'm on is based on guideline recommendations of 2.5 x body weight (in kilograms).

Weekly blood tests for the first 3 months is what I had when I started, I can't remember the dose I started on in 2006 but I'm now on 150mg a day, and it worked miracles for me after about 8 months, I consider it to be the wonder drug.

I started last February at 50mg and had weekly test. After a couple months she moved me up to 100 mg and I continued with weekly tests. It's worthy to note that I was weaning off of prednisone at the same time I started Imuran for precisely the reason you site. I was told it took about 3 months to get into our system. I moved from weekly, to bi-weekly, to monthly blood test. I am still on monthly. I have no noticable side effects. Judy

Here's my Imuran story. Started at 50mg and Prometheus test showed I wasn't at my therapeutic dose. Upped to 150mg. Prometheus showed way too high. Went down to 100mg. Prometheus said correct dosage. I have bloodwork every 3 months. It took from about April-Sept to really kick in for me. I'll be on it 2 years this April.

I started at 50 for the first month, then up to 100. Promethius tests kept showing low levels, so I eventually went up to 200. I changed doctors and the first test he sent showed levels to high, so he dropped me back to 150, which got me in the therapeutic range. I had blood tests weekly for the first two months, then monthly for the next two, then every three months for the remaining time I was on Imuran.
