On the flip side, it's also really easy for companies to produce yogurt (and other probiotic products) with either cheaper, less effective strains or strains that don't stay viable and live up to their claims - just to jump on the current probiotic awareness bandwagon. And they definitely gain financially from it.
I'm sure they have the usual disclaimers in small print, but their expensive TV ad campaigns certainly lead folks who haven't done their homework to believe their product will work miracles on a faulty digestion.
