Lialda

Hi guys, Just wondering whats the longest you have been on Lialda. I've been on it for about 3 weeks so far and it has certainly helped. I was wondering if anyone has been on it for a prolonged period of time (>8 weeks).

I have been on Lialda for 5 months- two tablets a day- although I was taking 2 tablets twice a day.

I think it has helped even though I am on so much other medication I am not sure what has helped the most

 

I've been taking four a day for three months. Lialda has been somewhat effective, but never got me completely into remission. I have Remicade to thank for getting me into remission.

AlabamaBabs, that's pretty funny that you marked the date! Seems like not too many people on this forum are on Lialda. We'll have to keep a close eye and hope it goes well. Beyond 8 weeks, it's anyone's guess. Right now I'm on 4 tabs a day, hoping to eventually cut that down to 2 tabs... but first have to taper off of the Cortenema. Hopefully within the next week!

I've been on Dipentum, Colzal and Asacol and they helped but only somewhat. I switched to Lialda and I've been on it for about 5 months at 3 in the morning.  The first few months were fantastic--I went into complete remission on it.  I thought I had found the answer, but in January I went into a serious flare for some reason and the Lialda stopped working.  I'm still on it now, at 4 tabs a day this time, but I had to also go on prednisone for the past 3 weeks--still having problems and I have not reached remission.  I didn't experience any side effects.

I've been on Lialda for about 9 months now. At first I didn't think it was working, but my doctor said to stay on it. He said I can take 2 pills in the morning and two at night if I thought it helped. So that is what I've been doing and it seems to be working fine - I feel really good (I was taking 12 pills a day of Asacol).

LOL. It's true. Lialda caused me lots of gas, initially, too. I just made many trips to the bathroom to let it go and go and go and go! I would get worried that I was go ing to pass more than gas and usually it was just gas once the flare was reduced. Once I was on it for awhile, the gas decreased and only comes back when I'm in a flare-zone.

I've been on Lialda for about 6weeks, and yes I also experience a lot of gas. The great thing is that now, being on it a while, I know its gas and not an impending poop, so I feel comfortable letting it out. Mine tend to be silent, but suprisingly not deadly (whew!) so I haven't had to run to the bathroom every time. It has helped a lot.

I want to say I felt better within a week or two, at the very most. How many are you taking per day? I started off with 2 and increased to 4 later on. What did your GI tell you to expect? Hang in there!

I was taking Asacol and was losing a ton of hair.I told my doctor about it and he told me to try Lialda. I seem to still be losing hair. I am thinking aobut swtiching to Colazol. Help anyone?

I started feeling better on Lialda in about a week. That's when I noticed that I wasn't having any more blood/mucous/urgency. I couldn't believe how quickly it began to work for me. So far its going well. I want to try phosphatidylcholine, but haven't figured out which store to go to get the delayed release form. I'm hesitant to buy it online.

I am a newbie here and don't want to come on too strong. I know from experience GI doctors do not talk about a very basic remedy just to the body around taking drugs, and thats taking probiotics...whether acidiphillus, bifidus, or several other strains that literally build up the flora in the intestinal wall. Unfortunately I am having a good flareup after around 5 years...I warded many blood spots and irregularities (say within a few day period) with Primal Defense HSO Probiotic Formula (health food store), by Garden of Life. I swear by them. Even though I have surpassed that and am now in the ugly stage, I still take because I know my intestine is getting stripped clean by diahreahh, to be blunt.

Your account of doing so well for 5 months and then....I am no doctor but I do deeply believe, based on studies, research, and my own experience, that ALL of us should be taking live probiotic form regularly...and I don't just mean yogurt.

My GI is technically retired but has been called back in twice due to staff issues. He used to totally foo foo me ten years ago when I would discuss food enzymes and probiotics with him. This time, when I told him what I was taking, he wrote it down. There are newer, inconclusive studies about the GI tract/UC colitis and it being triggered by sensitivity to bad bacterial strains. Good bacteria (probiotics supplies healthy bacteria back into the colon) is a major remedy. He admitted that while not as scientifically proven as some of the drugs, that many have found benefit by using probiotics to offset the body's natural sensitivity to bad bacteria in the colon...a massive admission for this old school doctor.

That was in line with a friend who is in nursing school and they just studied uc...there is a 70% verification that uc may be due to affects from bad bacterial strains in the colon wall, therefore, buy and take good bacteria for your colon. Some products are hokus...I'm sure mine not the only one thats good but I do highly recommend its effectiveness...Primal Defence, by Garden of Live.

I have been on Lialda since July and have found it to be a life saver when I use Rowasa as a backup. Lialda seems to have no side effects, at least in my case, and ever since bumping up to 2 tablets a day I have felt it working wonderfully. The best advice I can give is to try if you want something that you take only once a day. Goodluck.
