Lialda and har loss???

I had hair loss with Asacol and switched to Colazal and it stopped. Last year I encountered hair loss again and I believe it was caused by azathioprine. I had to stop taking it eventually but my hair still kept falling out - lots of it. On Sherry's advise - thanks :) - I upped my Biotin to the 5000 mcg and the hair loss stopped shortly thereafter. So you might try the high dosage of Biotin and if that doesn't work possibly switch medications. Good luck.

I called a family member of mine whom graduated from a beauty school and asked her for any ideas that she might have that could help me out. And she actually recomended the biotin. So I went right out to GNC and bought some. I bought the low dose but after reading that you acually uped your dose and then it stoped. I am thinking that I will just need to go and buy another bottle with a higher dose.

Thank you again. I am a very self concious person and to be losing my hair I just don't know what to do. I never really thought about what I would do if I were to get any of the side affects... But here I am.... Right smack in the middle of it. And trying to get a grip on my new life style.

This site has ben a huge help. I want to thank everyone for their posts and questions and everything. I am learning so much about UC. And with this site I don't feel so alone in the world with all of this.

I would recommend seeing your doctor or a dermatologist before taking any alternative meds or changing anything. I'm also on Lialda, for about 6 weeks now, and so far other than an occasional headache, haven't noticed any side effects. I'll let you know if I notice any hair loss! Good Luck.

Will the hair grow back???

I've been losing hair for quite some time and it didn't matter what mesalamine I was taking.  I often wonder if it's the disease itself and not the medications doing it.  I have been taking 5mg Biotin (when the 1000mcg didn't work) for a while and I think it retarded the loss, but the hair has not grown back. I've gotten really thin in the back.  I've also been using a She Min topical at night--so I don't know which is really helping.   I also noticed I don't have to shave my legs as often.  That's been really strange.

is that a safe dosage? I just might try it. I also think that it may not be the meds. I went for over 10 years without meds, but noticed my hair thinning. It just might be the DD itself.

i'm new this whole thing, disease included. I've been on asacol and canasa for two months now, month 3 just started a little over a week ago. i have been losing a lot of hair for the last month. i mean a lot...probabaly 50% of my hair volume is gone. it's scarying me and i need help on how to stop the loss, what options i have and if the hair loss will stop if i continue on the same meds.

im going to research it but i figured i could get help on this question from u guys...WHAT IS BIOTIN? What is it's main purpose? and is it as simple as getting it at GNC?

Currently on Lialda for 3 months and have noticed pieces of hair falling out here and there but nothing Dramatic. I have very thick hair however and never had hair falling out, even little pieces, NEVER!! you would have to pull it with all your might! lol It could be the medication which is causing little thinning but in my case nothing dramatic.(side affects also say less common) Genetics might play a dominant roll with me on this one but any daily multivitamin will have biotin in a low dosage. If looking for a boost A super potency biotin (5mg) will provide more nutrients so i cant see it doing any harm. Worth a shot. Try a thickening shampoo as well.
