anyone on an immune suppresor but not a 5-ASA?

I am starting to think I can't tolerate 5-ASA drugs. But I have no problems with Imuran. am going to discuss this with my GI next week, but am thinking that maybe I should try just being on Imuran, and my beloved rectal meds, without any 5-ASAs. is anyone doing this? immune supressors but not the 5-ASAs? how is it going? is it ok to do this? I won't make any changes without the consent of my GI, but am just wondering..... thanks.

Yep, was taken off Pentasa early on and been on azathioprine for 3 months now. Couldn't seem to tolerate the Pentasa.

I recently started 6mp and I asked my GI this same question, if eventually I would just take my 6mp dose and use that to keep me in remission. His reply was that the 6mp may be enough to hold me in remission, but he would want to continue taking one of the 5-ASAs if possible. The reason being was that supposedly regular use of 5-ASAs has been showed to reduce the risk of colon cancer while 6mp/Imuran alone does not. So, my understanding was that I would have to maintain my Colazal dose too. Now, I suppose if you can't tolerate the 5-ASAs then it defeats the purpose.
