Anyone in the UK getting benefits for UC?

hi all... can anybody tell me does anybody receive any sort of financal benefits to help them with their uc?

I applied around 5 years ago when my UC was pretty bad and i was turned down because they didn't recognise UC as seriously debilatating illneSS!! although i do believe that things have changed and that if you have chronic UC and have an ongoing period of chronic flares you may be considered for Disability Living Allowance paid at the lower rate.
I have recieved idisability benefit for a year from the Irish Government health board when i became really ill 2 years ago.This was because i worked in the Republic Of Ireland when i became ill and i was paying PAYE for 5 years.Although my payyments stopped after a year because that is the maximum time they pay disability benefit.

i am in uk and i have been turned down also foa a blue badge which was not very pleasing as you all know that to be able to stop anywhere would be ace, i do have a radar key for the disabled toilet whicg is a help x im also from uk

I was also turned down.  I did get the blue badge however but only thanks to my GP.

I recently took part in the Blue badge review consultation which the dept for transport is currently conducting. I made a VERY strong argument for UC sufferers to be allowed a badge. 

The consultation is still open.  Please complete it and email it back to the DFT. Each case they hear in our favour will have an impact!

Hi Memmie

I read recently of a successful claim for Incapacity Benefit for a UC sufferer.  From what I remember, it is decided on a points system, eg urgency wouldn't score as highly as incontinence.  You would need a supportive GP but it may be worth exploring if you are unable to work.

Hi, I am looking into this at the moment. If you go to the NACC website you can get information sent to you which gives help and tips on completing the disability living allowance application form, I'm going to try it's worth a shot.

Hi Memmie, although I have not tried to receive benefits for UC, when my work referred me to Occupational Health, the consultant wrote in the report that the 'Disability Discrimination Act' applies to me.  He explained that this is because without my medication, I would not be able to function normally. Having this in the report is helpful in case you have more than usual absence from work.  Good Luck.
