I just went for a follow up scope yesterday. In June 07, the doctor found 4 polyps, one of which was a tubulovillous adenoma and severely active disease in the descending colon. Since I had only had a scope a year prior (2006) with a former doctor (that was completely normal and UC was inactive), I was told to follow up within the year because it is odd that a 32 year old woman would have so many polyps form in only one year.
So, back to yesterday's scope. The scope was done only 8.5 months from my last, and I am nervous about the results. First, the colitis was found to be inactive (after an 8 month flare) which is a very good thing. The doctor did find one polyp that was removed and not concerning at all. There was something else that was found, and the doctor was unsure about whether or not it was a polyp or what it was. She told me that she was going to send it for several tests, and that I was to follow up in the office in 10 days once the biopsy results are in. When I asked her a few questions, she just kept saying that she'd talk to me in ten days.
Now, I know that these doctors know what it is they are looking at and can usually ease our minds to some extent if it's nothing to worry about (like she did with the other polyp). She is a really nice dr. with a good bedside manner, so I know that she would have given me info if she thought she could. Has anyone experienced anything like this? After seven previous colonoscopies, I have never been asked to follow up in the office in 10 days after biopsy results are in.
How could something concerning grow in only 8.5 months? I have been under a tremendous amount of stress this year and I have caught a lot of infections (bronchitis, strep, ruptured ear drum due to severe ear infection) so I know my immune system has not been functioning properly AT ALL. I have also had a few unexplained high fevers. So, I am wondering now if anyof this might be related?
Anyone who can help?
