How much Fish Oil?

I've noticed that a lot of members on here take Fish Oil supplements - just curious how much you take daily?  I'm not sure that I'm getting enough to make it worth while.

I just take one pill per day, but sometimes two if I'm really bad. I don't think you should do overkill.

There are other supplements you can take. Such as folic acid, ginseng. This website has a lot of helpful hints. These things have helped me!

I take fish oil (omega 3/6) capsule twice per day and they are 1,200 mg capsules. I'm not sure the impact it has on my UC but there are a lot of other health benefits from the omega oils as well (heart, circulation, hair, skin, memory, etc) so I take it for many reasons. The dosage on the bottle I have says 1-3 capsules per day.

CORRECTION: I just read the bottle more closely: the ones I take contain 1200mg of omega oils but only 400mg of purified fish oil. They also have 400mg of flax seed oil and 400 of borage seed oil.

I was told to stick with the enteric coated fish oil/Omega 3 capsules. The coating helps the oil get to the right places. Too early to know if it is helping.

Thank you for all of the insight, sounds like I am on a similar track to everyone else.  I do take the specially coated pills as you mentioned, that makes me feel better.  Its worked well so far, I'll keep it up!

katmom - sorry to hear that your daughter is so young and suffering with uc, I was the same age when I was diagnosed and know how hard it can be.  Please feel free to let me know if there is anything I can help with.

A pharmacist told me the other day that you should be looking for the DHA and EPA content...the combination should be about 600 mg to be effective and help with inflammation.  Was glad to get a hold of this info because the stuff I was taking wasn't even coming close to that...even if I took several!  Bought some new stuff right away...hopefully I'll notice a difference!

DHA is most important factor in fish oil.  Whatever you get take a pin, prick it, stick it on your finger and smell it.  If it smells rancid ditch the stuff.  I use Carlson Super DHA formula now which is enteric coated.  It has 500mg of DHA. I was drinking the liquid straight from the bottle, but something changed and I couldn't tolerate it.  I stayed in remission for the longest time while I was doing this too come to think of it.  I get it, along with most of my stuff from iherb.com.   I haven't found anything at walmart nor the pharmacies I can tolerate or would buy.
