I'll start out by saying that I'm still pretty skeptical - but I am wondering if anyone else had these results? I ordered the free samples from the Digestive Advantage site (the ones specifically for Crohns & Colitis). It sat in my kitchen for a week and then yesterday I thought what the heck - i'll try it. Today has been the BEST day since my flare 8 weeks ago. There was almost no blood in my stool and I only went to the bathroom 2 times this morning!!!! I've had zero cramps and feel amazing. Could it POSSIBLY work that fast? Is it just a fluke? And to top it off, I ate 2 slices of pizza last night so I thought today would be awful for sure!!!!

Anyway, I ran out to CVS today and bought some more. (Which, by the way it was on sale for $8.99 - regularly $15.99. I don't know if that's nationwide, but it's a good deal!)

Has anyone else had results this quickly from a digestive aide? I thought it would take a week or so to start working.

That's good, the ones you're taking must not contain all the un-necessary junk in it like listed in the link below...

You have to be careful with all the additives/junk they put in some probiotics...the one I take has only a little potatoe starch for preservation, no sugars, dyes, ect.

I have been wondering about this stuff myself. I received the free sample in the mail and it's been sitting on my kitchen counter for a month! I'm just not quite sure what it is. It says it's a digestive "food" or something like that. I'd be interested if anyone else has had success or someone could shed a little more light on exactly what it is or how it works.

That stuff helped me get into remission 21months ago. It worked for me. I used it for 2months, then once I was doing great I stoped. I would use it if I were you. yeah

Day #3 and I'm still feeling awesome. I might even be so bold as to say I'm in full remission - regular BM's, no blood, no urgency for the first time in months. I still don't know if that's what did it, but I'm going to keep taking it just in case. I'm down to 5mg Pred/day and tapering Rowasa every other night as well.

I had read something about the ingredients too, so I'm not sure - for those that are educated on this, here's what my box says:

Di-calcium Phosphate, Lactobacillus Cultures, Sacchromyces Boulardii, Sodium Starch-Glycolate, Silicone Dioxide, Magnesium Stearate, Vitamins A,B,C,D,E, Folic Acid, Selenium (soy), Lysine, FD&C Red #40, FD&C Blue #1 Lake.

(I know that Lysine is a natural treatment for cold sores in your mouth i.e. ulcers, so it makes sense that it would possibly work for ulcers in the colon as well?)

ComedyDork, let me know what happens when you take it. I know that some things work for some and not for others, but I hope it works for you too! Note, I started taking 2/day rather than the 1/day it suggests. I'll go down to 1/day in a week or so and see what happens.

My cousin's husband has UC and swears by DA.

Thank you so much for posting this fitmom00! I just saw this in Walgreens two days ago and was debating to buy it for my husband. After standing in front of the box for about 15 min. I decided against it.

However, after your post I think we will give it a shot. Did you ask your GI before taking it? Also, maybe I missed something, but it doesn't really say what it is. Is it a probiotic?

I hope you continue to feel well fitmom00. I agree, please keep us posted on how you are doing.

I started Digestive Advantage on Friday and it hasn't done anything yet. I'm just hoping that it's taking a while to kick in...

I added it along with the Kefir I already drink, and my two other probiotics, Align and Primodophilus Reuteri. It made me feel pretty bloated though. Just couple days using it.

I discovered this product a little over a year ago.  I take the one marked specifically for Chrons/Colitis.  At the time when I started it I was desperite for anything to work.  I was having 15+ bathroom trips a day and within 3 days of taking it I was down to 3 - 4 trips a day.  It didnt completely put me in remission, but it prevented me from going back to prednisone or moving on to the immunosuppresents.  I would be more afraid of being without this product than running out of my lialda.  In fact this weekend when it went on sale at 7.99 I bought 5 boxes.

The earlier link to an ingredients list with a lot of junk in it is for another of the products by the same company.  The Chrons/Colitis formula does not have all those other additives.  Although the packaging is a little vague about what exactly it is.  2 of the ingredients from the list - lactobacillus and sacchromyces boulardii are strains of probiotics.  I just wish this product would list the amount with the ingredients. 

So for me this product has been WONDERFUL.  I make sure I take it every day without fail.

I started on Saturday with the IBS formula, I have no extra gas, stools might be more firm, blood seems about the same, cramping only once a day,urgency not sure.
After 28 years with UC what the heck, I have no great expectations but any improvement is welcome.
If anything dramatic happens I will let you all know.
Also taking Gaviscon since it contains Sodium Aglinate,there are two small rat studies on pubmed
about aglinate and UC.

I have to watch taking strange probiotics, after about two weeks on VSL3 had sever cramping,when trying to pass stools.

Still doing good! Today was my last dose of Prednisone, so the next week or so will truly be a test. I did try to drop to one Digestive Advantage a day and the next day was not so good. Not full-fledged flare, but 4-5 urgent loose stools. I immediately went back up to 2 pills/day and have been fine since. I've read enough to know that different things work for different people, but I'm thrilled that an OTC natural remedy appears to be helping me. I'll continue to take my Lialda, but maybe I can ask my doc in a month or so if I can drop back to 2 pills a day instead of 4. (I also want to reiterate that I am using the "crohn's & colitis specific" Digestive Advantage.)

I havent had any luck finding it at wal-mart, but mine is a smaller old one.  The super walmart may have it.  But every chain drug store I've been in has it - cvs, rite-aid, etc.  However sometimes its hard to find because its not in the vitamin aisle.  I have always found it buried in what I call the "butt aisle".  Its with the stool softners, hemeroid creams, etc.  Look for the purple box.  Oh, and when it does go on sale it sells out quickly.

Yep, I found it in the Butt Aisle too! :) Winni, no, I was not previously taking a probiotic other than the Activa yogurts here and there.

Yep, it was definitely in the Butt Aisle! And if it comes on sale, you should get it ASAP. It was on sale last week and when I went Friday afternoon, I took the last box!
I think fitmom just got lucky with the DA kicking in so fast. My GI told me that probiotics will help in the long run and that I won't see any difference in my flare now. And that is true--I started DA Friday night and my flare has gotten slightly worse.
On a slightly different note, does anyone think that the pill smells grape-flavored, or is it just me?

So I made a trip to Walgreens today to pick up some Digestive Advantage.  I grabbed the Chornes and Colitis box, figured that was the closest thing to what I'm dealing with.  And I must agree with whomever said they were grapeish.
