I used his products, Garden of Life: Primal Defense, Digestive Enzyme, and FYI. I also took Glutamine Caps, DHEA, Slippery Elm , Capryl, Turmeric & Bromelain
multi vitamin, vitamin D, Omega 3- Fish oil, Colostrum Plus, Cal-Gel, and BioK-plus Probiotics.
In November I found out I was having twins and in December I had a miscarriage, loosing both babies. I attribute that to the UC. My body just wasn't able to give enough nutrients to the babies. I had a healthy baby at age 36 and 39. So I knew it wasn't my age as my OB/GYN said.
I happened across Sheldon's information of the Vitamin E enema . After getting the procedure from Sheldon I decided to give it a try, but I did not have time to squeeze vitamin E capsules. I went to my Osteopath and discussed it with him. He was very open to the idea. I took it to the local compounding pharmacy and they created my vitamin E enema and put it in a bottle so all I had to do was use a syringe to measure it out. Much easier. They used the NOW Foods liquid Vitamin E, like this one. http://www.affordablesupplements.com/vitamin_e_liquid_now_foods.asp?s=BY&m=pi&c=p_vitamin_e_liquid_now_foods I started the enemas January 07 and every night until April did these enemas. By the end of April I was having formed stool! I was so excited. I went to having an occasional enema. As far as the diet, I did eat bananas and apple sauce.
I tried just the diet and supplements but couldn't quite get rid of all the blood in my stool so I started with 3 Asacol a day in July 07 and worked up to 9 (Dec 07) and quit all prescription meds after my December 07 colonoscopy. The vitamin e enemas really helped me. Don't give up on the enemas, but I really believe you have to address some supplements and your diet. I can tell the supplements help me. My blood count said my Vitamin D was low so I started taking that. My Osteopath has really helped me with diet, supplements and medications without putting me down. Improvement was slow, but 16 months after diagnosis I felt I was finally in remission. My December colonoscopy said about 12 inches are slightly red and the ulcers are healing. Everything else looks good. When I told him about how I have attacked UC of course he said there is no research to to what I have used. My theory, whatever works use it. What works for one person might not work for another.
Probiotics are very helpful. The Primal Defense has probiotics in it, but not enough. That is why I used the BioK-Plus. It has 50 billion especially if I get a pain in my gut.
As far as diet- I eliminated bread, pasta, rice, milk and ice cream. Soy milk and yogurt were fine with me, but I tried to stick with the GOOD yogurt without much sugar, like Brown Cow and Stony Field.
