HI All,

I was using colazal for almost an year. I have been in remission for 5 months. I relocated from LA to Pittsburgh. My new doctor asked me to stop Colozal and start taking Lialda. I am taking the trial pack now. When I asked about the side effects she said it should be same as Colazal. Any comments about Lialda will be appreciated. Please share ur experience with me.

First of all, why stop what's working? If the colazal is working for you, then I wouldn't mess with a good thing! I'm on Lialda, but themaintenance dose (2/day) didn't keep me in remission, so I'm up to 4/day. Be careful. Sometimes docs push meds the drug reps suggest.

I was taking 3x3 Colazal. So insted of 9 tabs she said 2 Lialda would be fine. I also doubt if they are promoting Lialda.

I seem to be having better results with Lialda, although I think the Remicade is the big help. The meds are very similar but with different delivery methods, so you only have to take Lialda once a day. Even though I never missed a dose of the Colazal I found it a real pain the neck. I had to set an alarm on my Treo for the afternoon dose or I'd never remember it. It's just very convenient to take your meds in the morning and then not have to think about them for the rest of the day. I actually asked my GI to let me make the switch when I first heard of Lialda here on the boars. He said he didn't like to prescribe new drugs until they'd been out for a bit, but about 6 months after it had been approved for UC he told me I could switch if I still wanted to. So I did, and in my case at least I don't think the drug reps had anything to do with it.

Lialda is the same drug as Asacol, only in timed release so it's easier to remember to take it. If Asacol works for you, Lialda should too. Colazal is a different drug in the same family.

I switched to Lialda, because I wanted to take fewer pills a day. I immediately went into what seemed to be a severe flare. Couldn't leave the house. Heck, I couldn't walk across a room without having to run straight to the bathroom. I stopped the Lialda after 3 days, and I have been fine since. Now, of course everyone is different, but I will just stay with my Asacol from now on. :)

I have been taking Asacol 6 pills a day for 14 years. Started to have a flare and my doc switched me to Lialda (4pills a day). I don't see any difference. Flare is still here. No new side effects. I noticed less headaches with Lialda then with Asacol.

Lialda was a nightmare for me.

I was on colazal. And was doing okay. Switched to Lialda - and immediately had diarrhoea and cramps. Almost didnt make it to the bathroom, despite always being less than 30 secs from it. Switched back to colazal and im fine again...

Thank u for all your responses. I have been taking Lialda for 5 days now. I didnt see any side effects. Does this mean I am ok with Lialda or should I have to wait for some more time to see its reaction
