My GI told me to take fibre supplements daily for the rest of my life and I'm glad I listend...yes it helped stop the D and gave me formed BM's (often the TP is clean when I wipe they're so formed) and many, many other benefits, some are, I can eat fibreous foods with no problems of gas or bloating, which is another thing it's stopped in general, no matter what I eat, I'm not gassy or bloated...it also helped cut back some on my frequency and no more mucus (trips to the can for just mucus) just normal mucus which everyone has.
It's important to take plenty of water (which you should regardless on a daily basis) and to stick with it as it can cause gas and bloat which is normal until your system adjusts (took me 3 months but was well worth it)...it's been five yrs now and I'm still taking one prodiem daily (similar to metamucil).
It aids with C and D....
