Hey everyone. This is just a little bit of a vent. I've been on remicade for 16 months, but have been flaring for the last 4 months or so. I'm having to go to the bathroom 2-5 times in the morning, and there's a lot of B and D. I've tried eating more plainly, taking vitamins, and taking immodium, but things aren't improving. Worst of all, I'm in the midst of 5 final exams in 7 days. I'm frustrated that remicade isn't working as well as it should. My roomate probably thinks its weird I have to go to the bathroom 3 times in 20 minutes. I am hoping that once finals are over things will get back more towards normal. I have a meeting with the doctor when I get back, and I'm thinking of asking to put me on the steroid enemas because those worked in the past and it's easier to do those at home rather than at school. I'm also getting a remicade infusion when I get home, so hopefully the combination will help. I'm just so frustrated with this disease!!!!!!!!!

I hear you - I had to drop classes this semester because I couldn't handle it anymore. I think I can apply to backdate the withdraw and apply to get a refund which is good. I think after finals you will be alot less stressed and will be able to relax and heal better. I seem to be doing somewhat better now that I can stay home. Don't forget to breathe. I always tell myself that as long as I am doing the best I can then there is no regrets.

vent away. Having to deal with finals and a flare sucks. Sucks even more with a roommate. You may want to try the enemas now anyway, maybe after your roomie is asleep? You will make it through. Have you talked to your profs about maybe needing to leave during a final to go to the bathroom?

You can do it! Hang in there and good luck on finals!

My first flare was during my last semester of college. I was on pred and my face was huge and I felt so bad all of the time. I was just like you in thinking, if I could just make it through things would get better. I got through it and went into remission for 3 years. Good Luck!

I haven't told any of my professors, mainly because my problem with the constant need of the bathroom occurs for the first hour or two after I wake up. After that, you would never know that I have this disease. It's complete night and day. I have to get up at least an hour before my class, otherwise I would have constant problems walking/attending class. I know people have it a lot worse than me, but it's frustrating none the less.

I was dx'd my sophmore year of college. Now when i can I sub for a middle school. I get up at 4am just to be sure I'm done for the morning! Your very right. It's frustrating.

I can definitely relate, sirpenguin! Next week, I have 6 exams in 5 days and I'm in flare. I also have to get up about an hour and half early in morning than usual to go to the bathroom multiple times. It's just annoying.

Everytime i have flared since being dx (a year and a half ago) has been during finals!! Every time I enter finals season my mom always freaks out at me giving me advice to calm down and destress, i really feel that my UC is totally linked to my stress level. I just went into this semester with a totally diffrent out look on life and classes and it has helped me so much! i take my last final in the morning and i have had 0 problems this semester! Just try to relex and go in with the idea that it is just a test, and its not worth flaring over. It is so frusterating to have this in college, becuase you never know! But i am lucky enough to go to a small college and everyone around me is so helpful and knows. When i was dx i had to leave school 3 weeks before the end of the year but still managed to finish up the semester at home during break and when i returned in the winter. My profs knew i was really ill for a while, i would always get up during class and come back ALOT later or just not show up. It really helped telling them, and i find now that if i am having a problem if i tell my profs that i have UC and a little about it they are very understanding and will do anything to help me out (which i try not to abuse : )
So just get through it, or even ask to talk exams a little more spread out if you can. But talk to your doc and use the break to rethink life and your stress situation it helps alot (i enjoy yoga... give it a try!)
