Hi, I'm new here but I'm considering implants and have UC, which I know is an autoimmune disorder.  I'm just wondering if anyone else on here has them and if they have not had any problems.  I'm just worried because I have an autoimmune disorder if I will react badly to having forgein objects put in my body.  Any input?  Thanks.  BTW I am in remission and not on any meds for UC.

I have been wondering the same thing for years. I have asked my GI and he's not really sure. On top of having an autoimmune disease, i take imuran. So, not sure how I would handle elective surgery. I have had many miscarriages(never could have children) and was told it could be because my body was rejecting the fetus because it was a foreign to my body. The symptoms before my miscarriages definitely seemed like rejection. So, how would our bodies handle implants? I would really like to know as well. Hope you get some answers.

My cousin has chron's and implants.  Over the years she seems to keep developing more and more autoimmune issues, like her body won't stop attacking different parts of her.  I don't think that doctors ever actually finally pointed to the implants being the problem, but I know it has been a consideration b/c of the same "foreign object" you mentioned. 

Sorry - probably not the answer you were hoping for, she is only one case though, and also the only person I know well that has implants!

I don't know about implants, but I would never opt for any surgery that wasn't necessary. I've done a lot of work as a lawyer in medical malpractice and you wouldn't believe the number of things that can go wrong. (Many of these aren't malpractice, but the results are bad anyway.)
