pregnancy, flare, cortifoam 1-2 x a day entocort 3mg 3 x a day for 2 weeks

I'm 5 months pregnant and have been flaring since day 1. I've been using the Rowasa enemas as well as the hydrocortisone and the cortifoam. I was on prednisone for a while, but tapered off (I just CAN NOT take the side effects). I don't think I'll get this flare under control during this pregnancy. I've come to peace with that. I was on prednisone tablets and enemas throughout my pregnancy with my second child and he was born absolutely perfect and healthy. I laugh though because he is a completely different build to my 1st son (much bigger, maybe although those steroids that I took) although I was assured by my doctor that very little of the steroids passes to the baby and was perfectly safe. Hope you get your flare under control soon pregnancy should be enjoyed and I can remember when I was going through it with a flare it wasn't very enjoyable at all.

Just over 15 yrs ago when I was pregnant with my son I used cortifoam with no issues at all....it's safe, especially compared to oral steroids.

I had a friend, with UC, and when she was thinking about getting pregnant, she had a doctor say, "How dare you be so selfish and want to have a baby with your disease!" I can't even imagine what I would have said to him! This pregnancy has been VERY rough, but I don't regret it one bit.

I'm not JEG, but I can tell you that I was flaring when I conceived, but I don't know if that makes any difference. I had a bad flare when I was pregnant with my son, but did not conceive him during a flare. I think it really depends on the person.

From everything my dr.'s told me when I found out I was pregnant, 1/3 of women get better, 1/3 women stay the same, 1/3 women worsen.  I was in remission since I was diagnosed in 12/06.  I conceived in 12/07 and the flare began 4/08.  So I went a good 4 mos. with no symptoms, in fact my normally crazy stomach was feeling incredible.  Unfortunately, I had some anxiety issues and skipped my colazol a few times (well more than a few) and wound right back up where I started in 11/06.  My doc had put me on canasa at first.  1000mg suppository at night to control the flare but I was on that for 16 days with little relief (plus I've developed a hemi which made the constant D and blood even worse and more painful to deal with).  When I went back to the dr. with no relief he put me on cortifoam 2 x a day and entocort 3 pills a day for two weeks and then taper...This is my first experience with steroids and I have only been on them for a day and a half, but already I'm feeling some relief.  I was hesitant to go on them because of side effects and so on to my baby and myself, but after weighing the risks of the medicine and the risk of the continued flare, the medicine is the right choice for me.  I'm already feeling better (a little, I'm trying to be optimistic).  I'm keeping a journal now and writing down every single thing I can remember for when this flare began b/c to me it seemed like it came on overnight and i was in urgently in the bathroom 10 x a day, but looking back there were things that should have tipped me off and now that I am aware of that, I know for next time (we want to have another child someday, this is our first) what to look for and I'll go on meds right away.  As long as you don't flare having a baby is just as normal as someone who doesn't have uc.  And for that lady who's dr. said she was selfish for wanting to have a child, you're doctor is an idiot and i think having a child is the most unselfish thing a person can do.  Have your baby you'll be grea!  Even if you do flare, hopefully you can get it under control!  Good luck!  Thanks to everyone for your posts and answers.  I love this website, it's been so helpful this last month. 

Flares can be different from one to the next and so can pregnacies, my 2 pregnancies were very similar but I was in labour for 14 hrs with my first and 45 minutes with my second.
