I just used my 1st generic rowasa enama last night. Wow, that tip kills!!! Any tips on how to make it less painful?

Put a liberal amount of KY Jelly (or some other lubricant) on it. The lubrication that comes on mine is hardly anything.

I am usually a fan of generic medications but in the case of Rowasa, although the contents may be exactly the same as brand name, the APPLICATOR is NOT!!!!. Not only is the plastic so hard as to make it more uncomfortable, it means that is is harder to deliver all the medicine , as it is harder to expel the air in the bottle. So in this case the brand name is just so superior as to warrant changing, I believe. My husband was diagnosed in Nov 2007 and we found this out on this forum... Good luck!

Ok, I will try the extra lube. I used regular Rowasa in the past with no problems, but last night, wow, it felt like it was scraping me to death. I'm gonna buy some KY today and I hope it works better. I had no problems squeezing the stuff out, it just took forever to get it inserted.

Kind of makes you wonder if there's actually someone/something at the end of the assembly line squaring off the tips...mmmmwwwwahahahhaaaaaaaaaaa!!

Or maybe the generic's manufacturer eliminated lube to "keep costs down" -- LOL! / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

What is the name of the generic enemas that you are using? Until I read this post, I didn't even realize that I was using the generic kind. I looked at the prescription label and sure enough it said: Mesalamine Rectal Suspension, USP. Substitute for Rowasa. I've actually used this kind since day one. I've noticed that sometimes the tip hurts, but since I've never used anything else, I've had nothing to compare it to.

Hydrocort enema generic is same way. I find one good tip and stick with it. 80% of them are bad. A & D ointment for lube worked alot better than KY or vasoline for me.
