Ditto.. I just bought a box today and figured what the heck. My favorite part... The pills are TINY!! They're little purple things the size of an immodium pill. I took two to start off instead of one because I just feel like since I'm in a flare I don't think I would get the "desired results" in a week or whatever, so I just jumped to the next step *shrug*. Since today was the first time taking any I obviously haven't noticed anything, except that when I had a BM a few hours later, it smelled weird! I can't even explain it, it was just a different smell so I'm assuming the DA has something to do with it. Hopefully that's a good sign, haha. But so far, I don't feel sick or bloated or gassy so... we'll see.

I am still confused on which probiotic is the best, or is it just the amount taken that makes a difference?  do DA and VSL3 contain the same bacteria/probiotic?

As far as I am concerned..."the proof is in the pudding"...or lack there of. This stuff is either working or it is coincidental. But first time I have ever been told after 28 yrs of annual colonoscopies, that I am in almost a complete remission.

Yuckygut, I'm not sure about the ingredients, or which would be best... It really depends on you. But actually, I noticed the company who makes Digestive Advantage also makes a probiotic as well... I believe DA is also a probiotic mixed with other things, but I wonder if it might be beneficial to take both? Anyway the product is called Sustenex, http://www.sustenex.com/



On another note, I just went pee a second ago and it was foamy! Like it looked like I peed out soapy water. Never seen that before; really strange. I wonder if it has anything to do with the DA or not? Has anyone else experienced that? Hmm

Day 2... No change in BM yet. But I only had to go twice today instead of the recent 5-6 times. That in and of itself is fine by me. I'll report any more dramatic changes when they occur.

JohnJ: Which DA formula are you taking. The IBS or the Crohns colitis formula.

I have been taking the IBS formula for about 3 weeks now, also have had UC for

28 years.  I see some improvement on what I would call IBS symptoms

less frequency/cramping, but still have blood.

I've been taking Reuteri - would I take this in place of that?  I suffer from chronic constipation (not diahrrea)...would this be a good product for me?

Well, I can't really say for sure but... I'm still having a lot of mucous and some urgency but I haven't noticed any blood since I started taking it. Also I'm barely going to the bathroom at all, which is a nice change. So I'd say it does seem to be helping!

Keep in mind, other than prednisone, most things take awhile to effect change. I'd say the improvements you are having are a good sign, I hope it keeps getting better.

A friend of mine just gave me a sample of this stuff a few days ago and I was skeptical, but now reading you guys, I'm going to give it a try. Anyone know if you're supposed to take it on empty stomach or with food or does it matter?

I take it whenever I remember, usually ends up with meals, but have taken on empty also. I am SURE it is helping me. I wish the same results for you guys. I am gonna stop taking the Lialda even though MD said keep taking it. I will let all know how it goes. If any one has it already stop waiting to try it...just do it. Keep taking your other meds along with it.

Ok, I swallowed the little grape pill. Now the waiting game, lol. I have not seen it in the stores here tho, I am in Canada, anyone else find it in Canada? Going to take a closer look around tomorrow and maybe make some phone calls to. JohnJ, how long have you been taking the DA?

about 2 months, BUT did not really take it everyday at first. It was just something I thought I would try, and would forget at times, BUT I started to notice improvement, did not even think about the DA I was taking, then it hit me. Started to take it everyday without fail, and I am still doing great. I really have no other changes in meds other than prevacid 2x a day started about smae time for something calle silent reflux.

It's all in the past now. I am running again, doing great even sprinting, and back in the gym lifting weights, NO complaints here.

I have been on this stuff for a few weeks now. I bumped up to two a day around day 5. I would say that while it's by no means a cure, when adding it to your current colitis treatment it will certainly keep symptoms minimal. I was on it throughout a two week stay in Amsterdam and I do believe it helped me to enjoy the trip to the fullest.

For me, I still have one or two loose or watery BM's per day, but there's no more bleeding and I'm not constantly rushing to the bathroom.

Well, I only took the one pill... I felt really sick to my stmach the next day so I was reluctant to take anymore... altho not sure if I was just not feelin well or if it was the DA. I have my appt with my GI tomorrow, I am going to ask her about them and see what she says. :)
