My Gma has to go in on Monday to get 2 units of blood because her blood count has dropped to 7.9. She's had it done in the past but I can't remember - anyway, how many of you who have had blood tranfusions had to end up staying the night? Just curious.

I went in the evening and got started with my 2 units in a hallway in the ER. When they finally had a room for me I was moved there for the overnight and went home the next morning. I would think if she goes early in the morning she would be out the same day.

Hi Sherry...I've never had one, but I hope the transfusion helps your gma feel better asap.

I'm taking her in early, around 8am or so. I think one time when she had to stay overnight but she didn't get in there until 4pm. That was a while ago so I couldn't remember. Thanks :) We are getting Gma in tip top shape for our vacation. I'm taking her back to Missouri in which she lived for 30+ years to spend some time with her best friend. This is probably going to be her last trip there so I want her to enjoy it. Everything else though is going smoothly though so that's a good sign.

I had 3 of em. The 1st one I was already in the hospital when I was 1st DX with UC that was in July 05, the 2nd one was in March 06, I left in the afternoon and I had to stayed the night. Last one was in May 06. Since then I've been ok.

I've had several transfusions. Other than the ones I've had while in the hospital, I usually just go in to the hospital outpatient IV department in the morning and after about
4-5 hours I'm discharged and driving myself home.

I've had two. The first time they had me stay overnight to make sure I didn't have any negative reactions to it. The next time it was just an outpatient thing.
