Prednisone Moods and Antidepressents

Hi,

I'm hoping that somebody can help me with this question. I started a flare after being in remission for about 2 years. I had no choice but to start the dreaded prednisone again. 20 mg a day for about a month and all of the awful side effects are coming back, including what I call the pred moods. I need a way to stop these horrible feelings of anxiety, anger, depression etc.

My question is.... do antidepressants help with these moods? Does anybody have experience with this?

Hi Kevin,

I've been on prednisone a few times, and have had lots of the side effects, but my mood has never been TOO affected by it (although my husband will tell you otherwise). I'm not sure if antidepressants would help, but I would talk to your doc asap about it. My good friend had to be taken off of pred. immediately because it was so severely affecting her mood. Good luck, and feel better.

I'm not sure if an AD would help with the pred moods. Definitely worth asking your GP about!

yes you can find ADs help with pred depression.  It was offered to me when I had a 2 year course of prednisone and got very depressed.  I opted not to take ADs due to the reason that I thought it was pred induced.  After I ceased taking pred I still had the depression and then started taking them.  My GI was very much in favor of putting his mood altered pred patient on ADs.
