Remicade Tomorrow Morning

Well I was hopsitalized for a few days because I had a high fever and was getting very ill while on 60mg of prednisone. My doctors wanted to clear me for remicade ASAP. My first infusion will be 9:30am tomorrow. Im finally going in a week later then expected. I hope this works. End my almost two month flare. Also it seems Lialda made my symptoms worse and after my Flex Sig i switched back to colazal and have half the bowl movements a day.

I'll put it to you this way, before remicade I came to this board daily.

now I come about once a month out of guilt.

Ever since I have found this forum I set it as my homepage. I really have no been able to expercise lately at all since My flare. I want to get back in shape so after my remicade it supposed to make you feel better in a matter of days so I hope I can get back to my old self. Remission is very missed. Normal Bm's will be a happy sight.

My doctor is going to put me on remicade for about a year or less then switch to Imuran doses. Is this a good idea and has anyone had this before a Remicade to Imuran dropdown?

Remicade doesn't always work the quickly, Brian. A lot of people don't see a significant difference until after the second or third infusion - that would be 3-6 weeks from the start of treatment if the recommended protocol is being followed.

My doctor uses Remicade as a maintenance medication, and only starts it if you've already failed 5-ASA's and immunosuppressants.

Brian, I hope Remicade works that quickly for you. But I've had two infusions and haven't had any significant improvements--I'm hoping 3rd time is the charm! My GI said that I'll be using Remi "indefinitely." However, that could be because I had a serious reaction/side effects to 6MP, so I don't have the option of stepping down to it.

Lialda made your symptoms worse? Hmm, I switched to Lialda the day I started Remicade. I wonder if that could be "blocking" any Remi improvements...

Good luck Brian!!

I have had 4 infusions I think.   But I"ll tell ya,  the remission i was having just a few weeks ago,  was started the day after my first infusion.  I got my first dose on the last full day of my hospitalization.   Surgery was my next option (have even already seen a colorectal surgeon) but now have been relying on the remi.   I was having a great remission,  I had even forgot how horrible it felt to be in a flare,  until about a week and 1/2  or so.  I usually have some bowel/gut issues when I have my monthly period,  but as it goes away,  so do the issues,  until this last time.  It just kept getting worse.  I don't get my next remi until end of the month.  I'm so scared to end up back in the darn hospital...Today I started myself on the steroids again,  just hoping it does the trick..anyways,  the moral of this whole story (sorry,  got a bit long winded)  is that the remi can work fast, and work wonders!!  Good luck!!

I've been on Remicade every 5-6 weeks for a year now. It hasn't gotten me to 100% remission, but I have been able to get off the Prednisone after nearly two years (and an osteopenia diagnosis, anemia, weight gain, you name it!). So it's been a huge improvement if not a complete success. Many people here are totally normal on Remi, good luck!!

Besides the fact that i had to get stabbed in three veins before the IV even went through it went well. Ive been a bit groggy today but otherwise my stomach pains are down and have only gone twice, once in the morning and one in the afternoon. For the first day maybe im being lucky but so far so good.
