So here I am... I have only been diagnosed since October of 2007 and I have already tried 2 medications. Today they decided to switch me to the 3rd... I started off on Lialida but the side affects were too much for my body to handle. Next they had me on asacol... But I was experience extreem hair loss, which he said that was an unusual side affect that he had not seen many people experience.
So now I am on Colazal ... Lets just hope that everything goes well. I have no idea how many different medications there are out there. But my Gastro said that there are 2 other options that he would like to try if this one fails.
I have been taking Biotin for months and have yet to see a change in my hair loss. Is there something that I am missing?

I was losing hair there for awhile but I didn't attribute it to medication. It was stress. How long have you been off the Prednisone? I haven't changed any meds around the time my hair stopped falling out at such a high rate so I am pretty confident it wasn't meds for me. May I ask what side effects you had with Lialda? I was on Colazal but now I am on Lialda. Just wondering.

flaxseed oil has worked for me with hair condition & growth.

I've been on Colazal for years, and have never had hair loss. I hope it will work well for you.

I hope you have improvement with the Colazal. Do consider to be on rectal meds as well.

I experienced hair loss while I was on Colazal, and I am experiencing hair loss on Lialda now. However, I can't attribute it to the mesalamine because there are many other factors involved. For me, it might also be related to stress, seborrheic dermatitis, or male pattern baldness.

Sometimes it takes a while to find which medicine works best for your body. I have been on Colazal, Canasa, Prednisone, 6MP and Remicade (all in the past 5 years). I now take Lialda daily and Rowasa enemas at night and I am doing/feeling pretty well. So, what works for one person doesn't always work as well for the next. I felt like I had a lot of hair loss when I was on Colazal, Canasa and Prednisone all at the same time. I definately have gobs of hair in the shower every day - but I still have a full head of hair. I lose five times the amount of hair that my husband ever does!
