is flagyl likely to cause a flare

i know everyone is different-my daughter has this bacterial vaginal problem and the gyno is treating it with an insert because he wants to be gentle on her intestines, but his normal treatment would be flagyl- i called her gastro and she said flagyl would be ok- but she is kind of fliipant so i'm wondering if anyone can give us some advise here?

I have a pretty strong reaction to antibiotics and often flare when I take them.  And I've told my doctors that, and they've all thought I was being overly cautious. 

My GI was pretty flippant about flagyl, too.  The flare it started was so severe it put me in the hospital.

I also have had problems with flagyl in the past, it was part of what kept me in the hospital one time. The doctors seemed to not even consider the fact that it might be doing more harm than good. 

Generally for myself, antibiotics are far too rough to take.

I've been on an antibiotic for 10 days now due to a bacterial urinary tract infection, now I've noticed I'm starting to flare rectally. I have noticed for about a week a foul smell to my stool and I've noticed this weird brownish mucus type stuff last night and this morning. I hope this will pass. I have gone back to using my Canasa 1000mg every night and am on maintenance Asacol 4 pills a day. Wondering if I could get by with increasing the Asacol to 6 pills a day like I used to take.

Last year, I had same problem as your daughter and my family physician prescribed the topical cream treatment instead of flagyl tablets because of a concern about aggravating a flare.  She also thought that increasing the probiotic dosage was a good idea so as to increase the chances of maintaining as good as possible a bacterial balance.

i was always put on flagyl to help control flares, and it was actually the only antibiotic i could take without causing a flare

I was put on flagyl for two weeks to calm down a flare and to see if it had any affect on a anal fistula - so at least some GI's must think it is more helpful than harmful. It made me too nauseaus! I quit after a few days so I don't know if it would have made my symptoms worse.

I would go with the insert. Flagyl is a vile drug that should only be used as an amebicide-- because it can aggravate UC. It's like swallowing insecticide, IMO! Let me just add that your daughter's gyno problems are not unusual. Vaginitis tends to recur because of monthly changes. It helps to wear cotton underpants & insert tampons with some sterile jelly lubricant. I also advocate douching after end of period with 1 tablespoon of plain vinegar in a quart of tepid water. I would be careful with Flagyl.   I think its what started my UC for the first time...I was on it for a vaginal infection and thats when the blood and mucous and diarrhea started for the first time.   I thought it was the antibiotics just putting my bowels out of balance,  but things kept getting worse and worse,  until my actual diagnosis.     I also know that some GI docs will actually use Flagyl to treat some flares.      The GI doc oncall while I was in the hospital put me on IV flagyl,  but my GI came in a few days later and took me off it.  hmmm...interesting when they don't see eye to eye.   I do know that I used the suppository kind tho before without problems.   HOpe all goes well!!
