First I want to thank everybody for being so welcoming to me after my first post!

I have a question.....

I am currently taking the hydrocortisone enema at night right before bed. I am able to hold it all night. When I have my first BM in the morning (which has been fine since Sunday - no blood)....when I wipe, it looks like there is mucus...but it could be the liquidy stuff from the enema....????

I am curious......I was hoping to be onto the path of remission. Down 10mgs of prednisone to 30mgs and PRAYING FOR NO BLOOD. I am only going 2 times a day. But the "wipe" on the tiolet paper is getting me confused.

Wow, I am in the exact same condition you are in. Diagnosed with proctitis almost three years ago. Was OK for a while with one Canasa in the PM then a bad flare which started in March. The doctor put me on Colazol, nine pills a day with a Rowasa enema in the PM. The Colazol gave me bad D and the enemas (when I could actually retain them) weren't much better than the Canasa. Now I'm on 30 mgs of prednisone, two Lialda, and hydrocortisone enema at night. The pred and Lialda were helping but did not get rid of all the bleeding. I'm only on day three with the hydrocortisone and retaining it with no trouble, but the bleeding is much better. I'm getting the same mucus-like stuff first thing in the morning too so hopefully that is normal. I still have to go three to four times first thing in the morning, but at least now I can walk to the bathroom instead of running. Here's hoping that after a few more weeks things will be back to "normal".

Wishfulma, I have experienced that quite often too, I think it's pretty normal. Is it mucus? Is it the the enema? Not really sure, but it seems to be the norm for me. You are probably experiencing marbled bm's also. I think that all of the enema won't be absorbed and it needs to come out some way. It's good that you are able to retain the enema all night, some people find that to be very difficult, but the longer you can retain it, the better it will work for you. I assume that you will eventually taper the enema too, not just stop it right?

Did you say you are tapering the pred 10mg at a time? IMO I think it is better to do at 5mg at a time, you are more likely to see better results that will last longer.
