I am having horrible leg cramps. I can't figure out what is going on. I do workout hard 3-4 times a week. I always make sure to stretch and drink plenty of water. Not sure what is going on.
My only change in meds in the last few months is switching from Nexium to Zegerid for acid reflux. Thanks!

I get horrible toe cramps. It's like my toes go in opposite directions and it makes my whole foot hurt something fierce! Do you eat things that are high in potassium like bananas? If not, this can help with the cramping. If you eat high potassium foods and you're still getting them, maybe have your doc run a few tests to see if you are low in that department.

Could be lack of potassium which is fairly common with UCers. Eat bananas or drink vitalyte. Vitalyte can be ordered online at www.vitalyte.com or purchased at REI stores.

prior to being on pred, I would get terrible toe cramps and somtimes calf cramps when working out and inner thigh cramps if I worked those muscles hard.

You might be low in electrolytes or potassium...also check your blood pressure, if it's low you maybe slightly dehydrated.
ps.
Cramping can also be caused from fatigue.

Coconut water is a great source potassium too. Great if you don't feel like eating a banana in middle of night, and has more K than one too.

I used to get horrific leg cramps also - I try to eat at least one banana a day. I still get them sometimes. They also make some potassium tablets that fizz in water if you ask your doc for them. When/if you ever do take Prednisone remember you should also take additional potassium. Most docs do not tell you that. Hope your start to feel better soon.

i get calf cramps and toe cramps as well.
i was told that it is from lack of magnesium.
sometimes when we are low on calcium we only take calcium, but you need magnesium as well and they coincide with each when on low levels.
plus magnesium helps the body to absorb calcium.
so, maybe you need potassium and magnesium.
maybe i should be taking potassium too. hmmm

Oh yes!!! I was getting bad foot cramps all day last thursday....From what I've heard, your missing some electrolyte, I"ve heard potassium, and I"d tend to believe that, because a few years ago, I was actually diagnosed as having hypokalemia (which is low potassium)(based on bloodwork) and then that night I was getting the worst leg cramps I'd EVER had. So, on thursday I started downing lots of watered down G2 (low cal gatorade) and the cramps got all better!!! :o)
