Another good update on Bratcat

Bratcat went for her 5 weeks checkup with the surgeon. He said she is good to go for anything! Work, lifting things, swimming, etc. Now she'll have no more excuses for not helping with the food shopping and cleaning up around the house! She goes back to work on Tuesday (it's 13 hours a week). They know she may need to sit once in awhile.

I even asked, hypothetically if she needed ibuprofen or antibiotics down the road, could she take them (previously big no-no's for UC). According to the surgeon, she is healthy, normal, and cured so she won't have any issues with stuff like that.

She goes for a pouch biopsy in a few weeks. He wants to do it with her sedated. It sounds similar to a colonoscopy (in the office, don't eat after midnight). Luckily no yucky prep though. And she is still on target for her reversal in October. The surgeon said just when she finally gets used to the ostomy, she'll be ready for her next surgery.

So far, so good.

Old Hat--I agree about the meds. She has gotten used to tylenol instead of ibuprofen over the past few years. And (knock wood) she hasn't needed antibiotics. But it is good to know that she can take them. She may need her wisdom teeth out in the future and these drugs may be needed (or not).  I still think I would add a probiotic (or at least yogurt) to help balance the antibiotics.

Quincy--the only thing I know about the procedure is that the surgeon wants to see how things are healing.  Her procedure is August 25 so I will get more info then and let you know. I do know that he said we would only be in the office about 1 hour (total) and that the procedure is 10-15 minutes. This is not the procedure where they "test" out the pouch a few days before the reversal.

This is such wonderful news that she has healed so quickly and is headed back into living  a healthy life.  Congrats to her, and to your family - enjoy the health. Thanks for the update, I really appreciate it as I was forced to have the surgery 11 days ago and now have a stoma.

I got the good news today that the doctors all think that once I have healed and become used to the stoma that I would be a good candidate for a j-pouch.

Again, thankyou. This really gives me hope and its great to hear that BratCat is healing well.
