How long does medication take to work?

Does anyone know how long say a round of Steroids and 4g Pentasa per day would take to stop the bleeding and solidify the stools?

I am guessing it depends on each person but if it is going to work then how long does it take? When I took Asacol last time it worked within 3 days but this time I still have some D, I have less urgency and less motions a day but the BM still looks maybe slightly blood tinged but not as much as before.

It really depends.

Ive had steroids twice and they can work quite fast maybe a day or two to reduce the bleeding. Althought the steroids greatly reduced my bleeding it didnt completely go until i started using pentasa suppositories.

when i flare and have D i try and eat foods like bananas and marshmallow which i read on the ostomies board slows down output of the stoma. although i havent got a stoma i thought id try it and it really does help.

So within one or two days then? It's been two days and although things have slowed down a lot I still feel it is still there. ie slightly red tinged tissue and soft stools.

well thats how it worked for me. Might not be the same for everyone. But steroids are meant to be a quick working drug.

But the steroids only settled down 70-80% of the blood with me. The suppositories took care of the rest.

Has anyone suggested rectal meds ? could it be piles ?

As Colitisowns has said its different for everyone , with me it always takes about 5-6days , although last year i was on Pred for 5 months and they still didnt work . Not that i want to worry you .
