I know this disease is so different for each individual person.  But was just wondering on average how often do you have to have a colonoscopy done w/ this disease?  I had one when I was 49 - not diagnosised then only diverticulosis.  Again at 51 diagnosised w/ UC.

My Dr likes to do one every 2 yrs unless I am having alot of issues,then sooner. I was dx in 2002 and have had 4 or 5.

I haven't had a Colonoscopy done since July 2007, thankfully, but... had non prep sigs since, my last one was in July, and my next one is my 6 mo check up in January. I really don't know when I'm going to have another Colonoscopy.

My GI does every 2 years until you've been diagnosed for ten years, then yearly.

It generally depends on your doc and he typically goes by what catagory you are in based on your severity I believe.

You should have a scope a year after diagnosis with biopsies throught. Good baseline. If all is clear regarding cancer/precancer...every 2 - 3 years seems to be the norm with my doc. I have about 30 - 36 biopsies done every time...every 3 years. No cancer or precancer.

It'll stay every 3 years unless I have out of the ordinary symptoms that aren't improving with my meds to make sure nothing wonky is going on.

In general, I'd say that it would depend on the previous scope biopsy results....

Before my 10 year mark, I went in every 5 years for the colonoscopy but had a sigmoidoscopy every year - if the doc saw anything hinky then he would do a c-scope though. Now that I am past 10 years, my GI likes to do them every 2 years unless he sees something wrong then I have to go in yearly.

I showed "dysplaxia" in one of my previous scopes (that can indicate the cells are changing) so should be going in once a year. Although it's been over a year since my last one. Different doctors seem to have different timing.
