What I Miss

Oh, I also miss salsa. I used to put salsa on everything!

Seems all of us have to find out what affects us and adjust our diet accordingly.  I have no problems with beef hotdogs and lean beef of any kind but seafood messes with me.  Because I have had IBS and GERD for so many years I don't eat spicy or gassy veggies for years.  Anyway, milk, etc. is ok for me.  I do miss raw veggies and fruit.  Doctor said I should add fiber slowly AFTER I am in remission with no bleeding.  Right now he recommends low fiber and bland.  I have been writing down what works and what doesn't. 

Just as an added note - we all know there are many worse off than having UC or Crohns even.  My husband has COPD and now fighting Stage 4 lung cancer.  Try to remember how fortunate we are to be able to walk, talk, function (even if somewhat limited), have children, go to school, etc.

Hope I did not sound like I was "belittling" any battle.  I had IBS for about 30 years and know that is not fun either.  I am very much an optimist.  My husband has lived about a year more than doctors said he might and doing great - hey, one day at a time and face the battles as they come!!  Just never give up!

Red, I am excited, and I will definitely take your advice. Just got home from the grocery store, bought the romaine. I will try just 2 leaves. All I plan to put in is the lettuce and hard boiled egg - I know I can handle the egg. I also bought some videla onion dressing. The onions in there are soft. I am also going to fix a chicken cassarole - haven't tried any pasta yet, but it will be something different and will be exciting. Isn't it funny how eating foods can be exciting?

I also added a metamucil fiber bar as I haven't had any fiber since my diagnosis 8/25. I also noticed that some of us eat bananas. I bought 4 and thought I would try that for breakfast in the a.m. I am so tired of the scrambled egg and white toast.

Since smoking brought on my UC I did purchase some nicotine patches - a 2 week supply to see if this helps as I truly don't want to go back to smoking. I have my nico patch on right now - we'll see. Just hope I am not adding too much in one day but this "fake red head" is getting restless and need some variety! Plus I am a Gemini - born in June and for we Geminis variety is the spice of life!

Anyone have a good chicken casserole recipe?

OMG!! Where do I start? LOL

someone said, Klondike bars boy do I miss those, I miss ice cream especially pistacio nut, mint and chocolate chip, there are too many flavors to remember. Bake and saltfish (it's a caribbean thing lol), cadbury's chocolates, cakes , which includes ice cream cakes, strawberry shortcake ice cream..

all this has got me thinking...WHERE'S THE ICE CREAM TRUCK WHEN YOU NEED HIM!!

But I am risking it all for a turkey sandwich on wheat with lettuce and provolone (and a little cajun spice) and a glass of red wine. I figure, I am not working for the next few days and remicade on friday, so, what the hell. If I start exploding violently out of my backside at least I'll be at home until Monday to get over it.

Hmm yeah, I too miss being a morning person... I used to wake up bright and early, not tired even if I stayed up late, and I would eat a good breakfast and feel great. Now I wake up and run straight to the bathroom [and numerous more times while getting ready for work], I can't ever eat breakfast or else it will ruin my day, and I'm always exhausted no matter how much I sleep.

I also miss being able to go out on a boat or on the beach or on a nature hike or anywhere that there isn't a bathroom, without panicking and having to leave early.

I  graduated from HS on June 25, 1957 - just a little older than you are.  We Gemini's "rock" - no matter what the age! Elaine

I miss getting up in the morning, shower and breakfast, and then off to work or whatever. Now, I need 3 hrs head start. I also miss being able to casually stay at friends' or have house guests. And like others here, I miss popcorn. A lot.

I feel very fortunate that I can eat most anything I want, within moderation (which might mean not much of it) - unless it's a major bleeding flare. A couple of boneless buffalo wings do okay with supper. Ice cream feels so soothing when I know most other things might tear me up. Without Mexican (or tex-mex) my taste buds would wither up and die. I really would like to find a good Thai food place around here. It's been over a year w/o good Thai...

I really miss feeling WELL though. Waking up nauseated in the morning is miserable. Feeling that "kick" in the guts before a bm isn't pleasant either.

well, last year i missed a lot of food when i was on my bland diet... but as that made not one bit of difference, i am happy to say that i currently enjoy eating everything that you all mentioned. hot wings are great! luv them!
big fat juicy steak --> had it last night. awesome. and i feel fine today!
mexican --> had it sat and sun and every single week for last few months, with homeade salsa. freakin awesome again.

so i guess i miss ice cream... i think im a bit lactose intolerant. only can handle a bit of skim milk in my coffee.
i miss salads too... but im gonna go for it and have one this week. i will try the romaine lettuce.

like i said before... it hurts no matter what i eat, so i figure eat all the good stuff. even junk food.
and i think im in remission! woohoo.
just last 4 days or so, no mucous or D. no blood for over a week.
just minor cramping. only going 1-2 times a day.
so its definitely not the food that hurts/helps. cuz i eat anything and i still got into remission.
(i hope i didnt jinx myself by saying that--- whenever i say im getting better, BAM it kinda comes back) yikes! what a rollercoaster.
