New and hello and a few Q's

Hello!!

My name is Bill and I am 37 years old. I was diaged with MS in 2000 and more recently UC in 11/07

I had a colonoscopy in Nov and the gastro said it is UC.

I am in a flare right now, only 2 or 3 BM a day and VERY loose (watery) He has me on Canasa (which I forgot to do today) and Mesalamine enmas at night. I also take 12 asacols a day.

What is bothering me is this: I have this nasty gas pain in my stomach, probably constipation. It feels like someone punched me in the stomach and left their fist there. I had this back in march (Gastro kicked me up to 12 asacols from 6) and seems miralax helped. Has any of you experienced this?

I am very new to this disease and need to learn more about it.

I dont know. I had a real bad headache yesterday and I took an Advil because I couldn't take it anymore. I have read one of the meds I am on may be the cause of that.

I am not sure if it is a stomach ache (my definition, bad food) but more like gas that sits real high, almost under my ribs. I was out of work for 2 days. I can handle the D it is almost like clockwork. But this kicks my butt.

I am not sure if it is the cause, like I said I had someting similar to this back in March, maybe the meds are causing it? I dont think much of it becasue I don't (or at least not often) have reactions to meds.

Interesting, I quit smoking in 3/07 and the UC realy kicked in a few months later. I might have always had this but didnt think much of it.

If your diarrhea and pain increased since you started on the Asacol and rectal meds, it could be that you're not tolerating the Mesalamine, which is the active ingredient in all three. Some of us can't tolerate mesalamine but do well with Colazal, which is Balsalazide. The mesalamine enemas do sometimes cause headaches. BUT - use caution when taking ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or naproxen (Alleve) because one of their side effects is GI bleeding. Try tylenol instead.

Last week I had my gallbladder taken out after several days of what I thought was gas pain or possibly constipation. It was high up in my abdomen and it felt like constant pressure (like someone had blown up a balloon inside me). It was especially bad at night. If your symptoms are similar, you may have gallstones and should definitely look into it.

I hope you can figure it out soon. If you're experiencing the same thing I was then you must be feeling pretty miserable. Good luck!!
