Well, my family seems to all be coming down with a cold, including me.  I am currently on Prednisone and 6-MP.  What cold medicines are safe to take with these medications?

Yes, just stay away from the Nsaid ones such as Advil cold or any other one that has ibruprofen. When I get sick, I use Dayquil, Vicks or Tylonel Sinus. If I get really congested, I use Afrin at night just so I can sleep in conjunction with Nightquil. I hope you feel better soon!

You didn't mention whether or not you were taking any probiotics and/or vitamins.  I strongly suggest you take them, especially the B vitamins and drink green tea.  Both my daughter and husband came down with vicious colds last week.  I have to be so very careful as I am on 6MP and today was my first day off the prednisone after a LOOOOONG taper.  These are immunosuppressants.  Wash your hands thoroughly throughout the day and try to stay away from people with communicable illnesses (although when they live with you this is almost impossible).  I am sleeping in a separate room while my husband is ill.  I also made a huge pot of homemade chicken soup.  Good luck!

Well, I swear by Zicam...it's kept me from a lot of colds. We have just started the "cold" season in our office so I just stocked up on Zicam!

if you are on 6mp, you should stay away from meds that have alcohol in them such as nyquil. that's what i was told at least. i usually take a generic psuedoephedrine that works really well. i use the one that lasts 12 hours and is sold behind the counter. tylenol sinus works well also.

I took an over the counter cold medicine while tapering prednisone and started bleeding again. I was so bummed and thought I would have to go back up on the prednisone. My GI reassured me that he thought it was from the cold medicine I toke. He said many of the antihistamines or decongestants can be harsh on the intestines. Sure enough the next day I was fine. I would talk to your Doctor. I have however taken airborne when my throat gets itchy or my nose feels like its getting a cold. It always helps. I never asked if I could take it. It didnt hurt me. I work with kids birth to age 5 so I am always around runny noses. good luck!
