elevated liver enzymes

My nurse called me and told me I had two elevated liver enzymes and that this would require attention and that I need an appointement in two weeks. I was recently in a clinical trial for golimumab. Now I am taking Imuran everyday along with one10 mg Bentyl pill. I am very worried about this. HAs anyone else with UC experienced this?

Its good that they are watching you so closely. My husband has had elevate liver enzymes on his cholesterol med. When he quit taking it, things went back to normal.

I think you are going to be ok. My friend had elevated enzymes also, and everything was fine when they took a closer look.

 Let me guess amylase and lipase? If so this can be common in patients with UC. It can correspond with the amount of inflammation going on in the bowel, its just common with the disease. Pancreatitis can cause this but most likely its not, your doc will check it out. I went through all this so this is from personal expierence. My lipase and amylase where 3x the max amount, my doctors never even mentioned it to me...i found out myself by looking at my blood tests and doing some research. It wasnt pancreatitis cause that was years ago. The levels can rise with the disease, and they will go back down.

Imuran can affect liver functioning, yes. The good news is that the trouble is reversable when the Imuran is stopped. Don't panic yet, though, they'll probably want to recheck the labs to be sure there was no error.

My amylase and lipase levels were off the wall when I was admitted to the hospital in May.  Off the wall  meaning over two hundred points above the norm.  My GI doctor took me off the 6 MP immediately, but the levels returned to normal by the time I was discharged ten days later and guess what?   Doc put me back on the 6MP!!!  Have had my blood tested twice since June and levels are normal.  Could the extensive inflammation could have caused these levels to escalate like that?  I was in a doozy of a flare.

Thanks everyone. I am a little less worried now. I have read that it can mean many different things (alot of them serious) and was hoping it was just something that related to UC or Imuran in my case.

Ya like i said the UC itself and flareing can cause the elevated lipase and amylase. My was 3x highest amount they were in the 700's. I wasnt even on drugs at the time and hadnt had an offical diagnoses yet. It went back down on its own.  Had me concerned at first naturally, but it turned out to be nothing really.

Thanks Mike! I am not sure if mine are lipase and amylase because the nurse only said I had two elevated liver enzymes that would need further testing. Hopefully my case will turn out to be like yours. I definitely feel a little better. I'll get my blood taken again Tuesday or Wednesday so we'll see...

I think elevated alk phos is associated with PSC as is the billirubin count. My alk phos has been high and we have done many tests to try and isolate a PSC diagnosis. Hope this is not your issue.

Im sorry to hear that UC DUDE... I do not know what the enzymes are that are elevated yet. I think I will have my blood taken again tomorrow. I was wondering if taking digestive enzyme supplements could have caused this? I noticed you guys mentioning amylase and lipase and both of these are listed in a suplement I take every now and then. I mentioned that I took digestive enzymes to a GI I saw at a soccer game saturday morning (who is a family friend but not my personal GI) and he seemed to think this had nothing to do with my liver enzymes being elevated. I am just so confused... This came out of left field. I hope and pray it isn't serious.
