Hi everyone, my GI wants to try using Methotrexate as an extra therapy to try and get me in total remission...80% there, but lingering with 7 doses of remicade.  We tried 6 mp but my toxicity levels went too high and we had to stop.  I was searching for any other UC'ers that might have tried Methotrextae to know what to expect.  He says the side effects are minimal.  Intolerant to all 5 ASA's so that option is out.  He was talking about 25 mg injectibles once a week.  Anyone have any success with this drug?  Thanks in advance for the responses.

hi Landcruiser, i'm not going to be of much help but I go to a boad for my kindey's where ppl have used methotrexate with a lot of success. there a quite a few of the same meds used for that and my UC.

please let us know how it goes.

I used MTX years before my UC dx for a missed miscarrage. I had two doses and had minimal nausea after each dose but no other side effects. I was told then that it would also help with my severe arthritis pain, which i never really noticed a difference there. Sorry i can't be of more help.

I took the shots for about 6 months. I had no side effects. Now I take a methortrexate tablets 3 times a week.

winter....do you think it is helping you?  did you take it from the start witht the remi?  are you in remission?  if so how long did it take?

Im taking a methotrexate shot once a week-25mg. Its the highest dose they'll let you have but unfortunately for me my disease was so severe nothings working the way it should. I tried Remi-had 3 infusions-it stopped the blood in my BMs so thats a plus. The methotrexate makes me nauseated the day after. I get my shot in the top of my arm (too chicken to do it my thigh or stomach haha) on a Saturday usually in the evening or at night. For nausea, Zofran works amazingly! haha They also gave me phenegren but it knocks me out ..makes me EXTREMELY tired but it also helps with the nausea. I started out on 17mg injections and went up to 25mg of Methotrexate. Good luck with the Methotrexate. A lot of ppl have success with it =)

i was on methotrexate in october 2006 for my psoriasis.   during my taking of it, i got the worst flare of UC in my life.  very painful and bloody and lasted a year and a half.

i dont know if that is what caused it or not, but im now afraid of it.

got rid of my psoriasis like a charm.  fabulous!

cant drink alcohol while taking it.  but other than that, dont remember any other side effects.

I took it for a tubal pregnancy, two injections, I don't know the doses. I wasn't flaring at the time. I didn't have any side effects. Sorry I couldn't help more.
