After three years of panicing, I finally got my first colonoscopy! What an experience!  I had mine 2 days ago, my doctor gave me 10 of versed and 200 of fentanyl, needless to say my scope was at 11am and I dont remember anything until 530 that night..that was weird.  In any event, I had been taking asacol, and he switched me to lialda.  I was wondering if any of you have switched and if it made any difference?  Thanks!

Your first c-scope? What convinced you to finally do it? They really aren't that bad, it is just the prep that gets to me.

I took Asacol, but decided I was allergic to mesalamine, and stopped taking it. To make a long story short, my doc and I decided that I wasn't allergic to mesalamine, so now I'm taking Lialda. Both drugs did a decent job controlling my UC, the advantage of Lialda is only taking it once a day, and only 2 pills...Asacol I was doing 4 pills 3x/day.

I switched to Lialda about eight weeks ago and it's been great for me.  Asacol was working pretty well, but I tended to forget my midday dose while working and that was causing problems.  Now I just take my pills in the morning and I'm all set.  Definite improvement!

Thnaks for your guys input I appreciate it! What finally convinced me was my two kids, aged 2.5 and 1, I want to be there for them and be healthy! I should mention too that I am a terrible patient when it come to me. Its funny kinda because I am a nurse in a surgical ICU you think I would be better, but Im not. The prep was bad, but I guess not remembering anything for a few hours wasnt too bad either!

They are basically the same meds but you only have to take lialda once a day as opposed to 2-3 times for asacol as a maintenance dose. The pills themselves are considerably larger than asacol but it shouldn't make a difference given you have no swallowing difficulty. Other than that, Lialda is the way to go since you don't have to worry about missing doses as pancakes mentioned. cool

That didn't stop me though and I flared up as a result of not taking it. Something that simple shouldn't be too difficult but I screwed up. Don't make the same mistake I did and miss any doses! nono

Same results as the rest, no change for me other than the amount of pills I take.
