once on 6mp or imuran, did u go off other meds?

I know 6mp and imuran are similar so I pose these questions to people taking either one...

Once you had been on the immunosuppressant for awhile did your GI doctor take you off other UC meds like asacol, canasa, rowasa, sulfasalazine, etc?

I've been on 6mp about 5 months. My UC isn't bad (compared to my last flare) but I'm not in remission either. My frequency is down (about twice a day) and no blood lately, these are the good things. But still urgency, loose movements, sometimes yellow liquid involved (maybe bile), often mucus, undigested vegetables come back through (even soft cooked ones), sometimes mild pain (not bad), and always lots of gas. Also I seem to have "fast track" where whatever I eat or dinner or before bed is apparent in the toilet the next morning.

I went to my GI last week and she said first taper completely off the asacol. Then taper completely off the canasa. So all that will be left is the 6mp. She made that all sound like it should be a piece of cake and said to come back for my next appointment in 4 months (which is a longer stretch than usual).

This whole thing makes me a bit nervous. I don't know which meds are keeping my UC somewhat controlled. And going off meds would make more sense to me if I was digesting food better (she says I don't need digestive enzymes) and having firmer movements without mucus or bile.

Did you go off other meds once immunsuppressed? Other comments/opinions?

Anyone else have experiences or comments about whether you went off some of your other UC meds once you had been taking 6mp/mercaptopurine or imuran/Azathioprine for awhile?

My doctor felt the 5ASA's were making me worse and after I tried Lialda and then sulfasalazine with no success and just worsened, he took me off everything and put me on Imuran. His plan is for me to take it for three months (I'm just finished month one with no improvement) and if it doesn't work he's talking Remicade.
