I am not in a flare but I have lost allll of my desire for sex. Is it the UC or the meds possibly? It is ruining my relationship and I dont know what is wrong with me. Does anyone else have this issue?

I noticed that while I was on prednisone the last time I wanted to have sex all the time. When I weaned off of prednisone I lost the desire to have sex for a while but it did come back. In the meantime I just made myself want to have sex so my husband wouldn't go crazy.

During the worst parts of a flare I have no desire. Otherwise Im pretty much horny all the time devil

Possible it is a mixture of the meds and you being exhausted from battling the disease. Asacol made me really tired and that could be part of the reason.

Try and set aside some time each week to relex and not worry about too much. Maybe set up a date with your husband or wife or GF, whatever you may have, and make it romantic. Usually for me if I look foward to something for a while it is good no matter what. Both of you dress up and forget about your life for a bit. Be thankful for what you have.

Are you taking any antidepressants? They zap sex drive like no other.

I see that you have Zoloft listed as one of the meds that you are taking. Antidepressants, and especially SSRIs will suppress your sex drive. I am on citalopram (generic Celexa) and still have the desire, but have a very difficult time reaching the big "O".

Hope that isn't too much information. But my guess is that it is the Zoloft. You may want to check out http://www.depressionforums.org. They have a Zoloft forum where you can ask questions and read what others have to say.

I remember that during my last flare, i set up a small table in the bathroom so i could use the laptop while sitting on the john. lol That was one the places i would visit.

How long have you been on the Zoloft?

I think the meds might have more to do with it...I don't take oral RX (either allergic or non-responsive) but I do take naturals and I've been feeling better and my drive has certainly increase (of which my husband has very patiently been waiting for and says it's been worth the wait) sorry if that was too much info but I'm happy at the moment (in many ways).

yeah.. i have no sex drive at all.

i couldnt care if i had sex or not.  which is weird cuz i used to be super horny.

now.. nothing.. crickets.

sucks for my hubby... 

i mean, when we do it, its good and fine and im glad we did, but i just dont think about it at all or initiate it or anything.

i wish i did. 

i dont know why either.  i was on birth control for 14 years and have been off it since march, but it still hasnt come back. could be due to the flare im having.  i mean, the love tunnel shares a freakin wall with my swollen colon or tender rectum or whatever.. but yeah. just doesnt sound good or comfortable or fun really.

any suggestions on a pill or something to take to boost my libido?

im all ears!

I think the combination of feeling better (although still in somewhat of a flare of course) and exercising regularly has had a lot to do with my libido comming back.

This is quite a popular topic.  I say that as long as my guts are feeling normal, then I am ready to do it like a bunny rabbit.  But I am a dude and I have a feeling most of the unmotivated folks responding are girlies.

I am 51 and still have a sex drive. When at the worst part of my flare, I had a sex drive, but too fatigued. My husband will be 60 in January. He was highly sexual when he was younger now he's just sexual if that makes sense. Anyway, (shhh don't tell) we're weekenders! That said, even when I was so fatigued we were able to maintain our same routine.

Thank you kazygirl for your hilarious description of the love tunnel. I am lucky to have a fiance that is understanding of my current flare of 6 weeks. This is one of the more serious ones. We are planning a wedding for Feb 28th, and I am hoping flare-free days are soon to come. I have tried to describe the sexual situation as not wanting to put anything else in that cavity that houses my mean, swollen colon. I mean after running to the bathroom all day and making "donations" to the blood bank (my affectionate term for UC flares), the last thing you want to do is get romantic.

This forum has been extremely helpful for me, and I am going to encourage my fiance to check it up. Maybe it can help him relate to this "pain in the butt" disease.

Not to mention if you've lost weight and/or hair, you don't feel attractive AT ALL.

Kazy - you described me to a tee. And yes, my sex drive improved drastically w/ entocort. But I do think part of my problem is I am too busy stressed and tired. When you stop "self-serving" then you know you really lost the drive.

I'm only 23 and I have literally no sex drive most of the time. My boyfriend takes it personally and thinks I'm not attracted to him anymore but it's hard to feel in the mood when you are worried about having to stop midway through to run to the bathroom, or you're feeling too tired to even want to move.
