Hi as a new member of the group just wondered is there a list of foods that many of you folks who have suffered with this condition for some time have found to be a complete no no for this condition and are known to trigger an flair.
Thanks Geoff

HI,
Everyone is different, you'll find!
Mine are iceberg lettuce, some tomato sauces (Pizza Hut, ugh), hard liquor, fresh spinach & big salads
And, apparently, gluten.

Salads/veggies are a definite no-no for me.

I avoid dairy, spicy foods, real fatty or greasy things, raw fruits and veggies especially iceburg lettuce (but I have no trouble with Romaine lettuce) and corn, seeds/nuts, malt beverages and if I do drink, I do so in moderation.

Limey-G,
Welcome to HW! I have found this disease to be different for everyone. What one person may be able to eat another may not. I have just accepted the fact that I have UC and I am going to enjoy each day that I have on this good earth. So, I suppose what I am saying is that I am not going to worry anymore what I can or cannot eat - I just eat what I want and go w/ the flo - no pun intended LOL!

Where do I start-
Ice cream, salad greens, all raw vegetables, raw fruits, fried foods.
I love fruit and salads--- this is the hardest to give up. Today I ate canned peaches and pears. So far, so good

everyone is so different.
the best thing you can do regarding food is to keep a food journal. it takes a lot of time but is really worth it.
list what you eat, meds you take, how you're feeling, what your BMs etc are like and whatever else you think is relevant.
i was able to eliminate foods that i never would have thought to be irritating but they were to me.
good luck!

Foods are not the cause of flares, although they can be irritating and a factor/variable to an already existing problem. It an immune response that causes all the damage. Food allergies, spicy foods, undigestibles like insoluble fibers can all play a part. I second hekela's post above about
the food diary. Only then will you be able to isolate your comfort foods from those that may potentially cause you discomfort.
I eat anything I can get my hands on when I'm in remission EXCEPT: Popcorn and lactose.
When flaring I consult my food diary and revert to my highly-digestible low sugar low starch foods that agree with me for the length of the flare. You don't wanna wait until a flare to find out a food that your body doesn't like... The diary is well worth the effort to achieve/maintain remission.

Food was never a huge problem for me but when I am flaring I do stay away from lactose of ANY kind, lettuce, peanut butter, cereals with a high fiber content, and I guess I avoiding going to a restaurant for a big dinner. I must agree though, food doesn't cause a flare and everyone is different!

Thanks everyone for your input, it at least gives me an idea based on you folks experiences to start at least to understand foods that can irritate my condition.
Much appreciated

For some reason Chinese food, whether I make stir fry at home or get it at from a restaurant, is a
real
problem for me.

Candy bars are the only thing I've really found that seem to affect me much....I probably shouldn't eat those anyway. =)

If I never had remission yet, how can I see what's make me flare?
