Hey, I also wanted to ask if anyone has gone on cyclosporine or heard of it........my doc thinks it could be good for me.

I have used Cyclosporine twice for severe UC flares.... make sure the GI that you are using is experienced with Cyclosporine; it's not one of those drugs that you just want to "try" but it is very safe if properly monitored by an experienced GI. Each time that I used Cyclosporine it required a lengthy hospital stay.

It is a very effective drug for treating a UC flare; I noticed significant improvements in about 4 days of being on IV Cyclosporine. And not too many horrible side effects either.

I would suggest that weigh everything out before starting Cyclosporine; also consider surgery. Remember that between 25%-35% of UC patients require colon surgery at some point in their life.

I did two rounds of cyclopsporin in hospital in 2007. It allowed me to avoid the surgery but I was VERY VERY sick when i had it. I had to go back in hospital for a second round bcs the first doc didn't give me oral cyclosporin to maintain remission. Be sure if you do the iv you're remission is managed with oral cyclo for a few months.

I was symptom free for almost two years after that.
