flagyl

I've never taken flagyll as a UC treatment, and it seems weird that it would be considered as one, but I have seen some on the board that it has helped their symptoms. Both of the times I took flaygll, it was to knock out bacterial infections (giardia and c diff). For the giardia, I took it twice a day for twenty days with little negative side effects. When I used it for c diff, I was taking it 4 times a day, and I got the full range of side effects: the nausea, D, and loss of appetite, to go along with the fever, lack of energy, metalic taste in my mouth, dry mouth, and how bad the pill itself tasted when swallowing. The flagyll was almost worse than the c diff infection, and definitely worse than my UC symtoms.

I'm not trying to scare you from trying the flagyll. It was only when taken in large quantities that I got the really bad side-effects. Maybe it will do the trick for you. Good luck.

My GI doc puts me on flagyl and levaquin along with prednisone for bad flares.

Unfortunately, it didn't do much good this last flare--ended up on remicade, which seems to be helping a little so far.

     Are you taking the Flagyl with food?  On my script it says to take with meals.  May make a difference.  It never made me nauseated.

I took a flagyl/cipro combination once and it helped me get out of a flare.

Personally I wouldn’t take Flagyl unless I get C. Diff. because it is one of the few things that will get rid of it. Having had C. Diff twice now, it is not something to be trifled with, and so I am saving the big guns for when I need them the most. I would actually try taking an antibiotic to help, but I am more afraid of the getting C. Diff back than anything.
