depressed

hi i new that eventually my daughter was going to get to a place where emotionally the disease would affect her.
she has been away for most of the year since her diagnosis home for a few weeks here and there, but mostly away at college or living in the city for the past suummer for a
job, something she really wanted to do.but it's all bitter sweet. this week she has cracked, letting me know that she doesn't feel like herself and hasn't for a while-she feels sad
and has a hard time being happy. no surprise to me, i admired her for her courage and gave her the space to do what she wanted. i have to thank all of you for listening and advising me
it kept me off her back giving me a place to air my anxiety and find information.

the point is now that she is expressing that she may be possibly depressed i am sad but doing the best for her. i called her gastro and she had a psychiatrist call my daughter and they set up a consult -she will be coming home sunday and will see the psychiatrist monday. but she will only be home for 2 weeks if she needs to be put on medication, will it interfere withthe 6mp, i am afraid that anything that goes throught the body can change the
medicines effectivenss or tax her liver and kidneys more. is anyone successfully taking the 6mp ,colozol and an antidepressant?
what are some antidepressants that are used with respect to all the other meds.
she finally sees the rash fading that she has had since sept. and is planning on studying in london for spring semester.

Hi there! I don't have an answer to your question but I just wanted to let you know that I am also a 19 yr old college student and was diagnosed about a month before your daughter. So I can definitely relate to your daughter. Going to school, living away from home, and coping with a chronic illness can be very difficult. Hello Rey, your daughter's got a great mum!
UC is darn hard to cope with, but it sounds like your daughter is a real battler. Good on her. I'd be amazed if there was a single person on this forum who has never suffered at least some of the symptoms of depression. Sometimes, just the constant drain on physical energy can make us all down and take some of the colour out of life. I'm glad she's getting to see a professional who will be able to help her out, and it's even better that he/she is going to start from a position of knowing your daughter has UC.

Rey, a lot of us do take antidepressants. People with chronic disease of any kind are more likely to develop depression. I've never heard of anyone having problems with their UC due to antidepressants.
