Tip for stupid auto-flushing toilets:

So the mall near me has proximity sensing toilets, which work terribly. They keep flushing about three or four times while I'm right around them, and they flush so hard that the water sprays out.

So, I finally figured out how to fix this: Grab a piece of toilet paper and hang it over the sensor, and remove it when you're done. Voila!!!

I've only encountered a repetitive flusher a few times but I will keep that in mind for the next time. I hate it when my tush gets wet even before I DO anything! I would not be an ideal candidate for a bidet for sure! :)

Yes, I ALWAYS tear off the first bit of TP and discard (so using it to cover the sensor makes it useful) I don't like the idea of using "touched" TP so I've always discarded the first bit of it in public washrooms.

I hate those! Most of the toilets on my campus are auto-flushers. I hate when it flushes my poop before I've had a time to examine it (now don't lie...you all do that!) I rip the TP off too because someones pee hands on my toilet paper doesn't fly with me. Great tip though!

Great tip-- thanks. Yeah those auto-flushers are so obnoxious. Plus, they have the habit of flushing toilet seat covers before you even get seated on the throne- gotta love it.

I've never in my life come across that (timed lights/fan in public washrooms), what a stupid idea that is.

My problem is the lights/fan that are on timers. On more than one occassion I have ended up in the dark on the throne in a public bathroom because I used my allocated 2 minutes without movement. Once waving my hand worked. The other time the light didn't go on until I left. The sensor was on the door. Maybe they should set it to not turn off until the door opens again - meaning the person is leaving!

Never heard of such a thing as timed lights in a public washroom.

Some flushable toilets are at least less in a hurry....but I like the idea of the toilet paper over the sensor.

The one weird thing...people who don't wash their hands....still don't, regardless....but at least the flushable ones help prevent flushing  people from flushing with fheir feet.

Now, if some women would only  quit squatting above the toilet and peeing all over the toilet seat...we're kind of lacking the equipment to aim....

LOL...I FIND SOMETIMES THE FLUSHING IS USEFUL DURING FLARE UP... I PUSH OUT THE WORST NOISES DURING THE FLUSHING...LOL... SOMETIMES MY COLON CAN DO SOME SINGING...LOL... AND IT CAN BE EMBARRESSING... SO FLUSH COVERS UP SOME OF IT... ANY ONE ELSE ENJPY THE FLUSING?  LOL

Cool advice! Never thought of that. But I never had a problem with toilet that spray back at you. Some toilets where I live are automatic, but not trustworthy automatic. So, when you expect them to auto flush, they don't and you just have to press the button to make it flush.

Heather - that is my absolute pet peeve in this whole life - about 40 of them anyway - peeing on the toilet seat.  Now - I can't stand above the seat and pee because of arthritis, etc.  Those who can should at least wipe it off the seat.  Just the time when I am hurrying and forget to look is when I get my bottom WET!  YIKES!  So ugly and gross!

Ew - I sat on a wet toilet seat once and got a nasty sore on my inner thigh. I saw my doc right away and it was some kind of infection though not an STD. He said it is very rare for someone to catch something from a toilet seat and that he thought it was something I would have got anyway or from an in-grown hair. I totally disagree. That thing popped up a day or two after getting soaked in someone elses pee. Gross.
