This most recent flare I am in is getting painful at times....last night I felt like I ate a knife....and today as well - sore, discomfort, and exhausting. I have some pain meds in the cabinet from other surgeries, etc...Hydrocodone, Vicoden, Darvocet, etc.. Anyone ever take any of these for UC pain? I know Tylenol wont touch it....and Excedrin has asprin in it which could make things worse.... I have had cramping pains before, time and again, and dealt with them never needing any pain meds.... This time I do not believe it is cramping alone - I have more blood this time and it seems that the more pain I have, the more blood there is.... Just looking for a little relief suggestions....

I can suggest you try rectal meds...
I haven't needed any other pain meds except to use antispasmodics, tylenol and an antinausea.

Where exactly is the pain you're suffering from?

I have been given hydrocodone, oxycodone and oxycontin for my UC pain... by my family doctor. It doesnt hurt anything and provodes you at least a little while of relief!

Do, however, remember than any opiate meds can cause the colon to really slow down, so ultimately, it can sometimes become a way for treatment by the patient, but will do nothing for actual inflammation or improvement of symptoms.

Although, in saying that, less pain gives more confort and less worry...less exacerbation of symptoms..
Sometimes a vicious cycle.

Please use UC rectal meds if haven't already...and if you have to use opiate meds more often, maybe another treatment regimen is what you should focus on when you see your doc next.

Please consider rectal meds..can't express that enough.

If you haven't already please try enterically coated peppermint capsule for spasms...they work very well. Please feel better: )
