how do you know if your flare up worse?

how do you know if your flare up worse? as mine always seem the same since ive had it, always bout same amount of blood in pan, same amount of pain etc

i spose wot im askin is will it ever stop?? hatin it as wrk never understand tht i dnt understand the condicton myself and wot sets me off, and whn i have a day off there like u need 2 try come in even whn ur not feelin very well.. i know my record of being off is bad , but really i cnt help it wit the colitis, and losin my dad, bro, nan and grandad in 2008

Have you read any books on UC?

I would suggest this one: The First Year: Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis: An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed by Jill Skalar. It has good information on the basics of UC.

Goodness, I am so sorry for all you endured in 2008.

Does work know you are sick?

work have been told all of it. but they seem 2 think it like a cold , will just go away wit meds

If only!!!! I WISH it were that easy...

Maybe a direct conversation with your boss about what is going on will help? It's always hard to know whom to tell and how much to tell them.

There are several posts about it. At times we've helped each other script out what to say.

I would suggest finding out what your options are. Do you have disabilitly insurance? Could you take a couple of weeks off to focus on you? I know it would be difficult for me to do that. Can they put you on a flexible schedule? Are there ways they can help you to help them?

i work in a school and they dnt like u havin time off, why would i need disability insurance?
i have spoke to the main boss - headteacher. still no understandin.
it hard enough tht i dnt fully understand things

Just a couple of comments,
You're not taking very much Asacol, maybe more would help.
I judge getting worse by increasing urgency. And by certain trigger foods (like lettuce, or tomato sauce), can you try to figure out if there are trigger foods that make you worse?
Short term disability insurance would allow you to take more time off, but few have it. This disease is also newly covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Is there an HR person at the school you can talk to about options? Taking into consideration you may always struggle with this on and off?

The www.ccfa.org website has some good information on the disease and some pamphlets for use when discussing UC with others. Might be worth taking a look at.

HR would be Human Resources. If you don't have someone like that, do you have a school nurse? Maybe s/he could point you in the right direction.
