Hi everyone, I would love to hear your opinions!  Ok, so I have been having rectal pain since Christmas Eve.  It is slowly getting worse, and I now have nausea and a lack of appetite.  It now hurts to sit/walk and is even uncomfortable when I am just laying down. I do not have diarrhea, but I do have frequency with sometimes a little bit of blood or mucus, but generally a normal stool.

I got desperate and called my doc today.  Lucky for me he's out of the office until the 29th...I can't wait that long to be seen!  The office paged him and he said that it could be either a fissure, internal hemmoroid, or a flare.  EVen though I wasn't straining and don' t have itchiness, I am trying the Prep H suppository tonight to see if I get relief.  Nothing so far, and they won't stay in!

I also tried taking an anti spasm med but it did nothing...  and I'm very uncomfortable and in pain!!  :(

What do you think?  thanks!

I had this problem earlier this year, thought it was an H, had some bleeding and lots of pain.  Turns out it was a fistula and I had to have surgery for it.  You need to get in to the doc before the 29th, that is insane, isn't anyone covering?

Just in case...the surgery for the fistula was no biggie, the recovery is boring, but I went on a driving vacation 10 days later with no problems.

Hope you find a solution soon!

It sounds like it could be rectal inflammation (not anal as anal is involved with CD only), it could be an internal hemmie, fissures you'd feel because it's like pooping razor blades and that is on the anus not in the rectom...I say get on rectal meds because it sounds like proctitis if there is no internal hemmie or external fissures.

This is most likely rectal inflammation. If you still have any Rowasa, I'd start taking one of those daily until you can talk to your doctor.

Also try sitting in the tub with hot water. That can help relieve the inflammation and the pain temporarily.

Hope you feel better soon...curious why are you off UC meds?

I have a fissure and although it hurts sometimes when passing stoll my stripped stool bleeding was proven to be UC related...get it checked to be sure.

Please keep replying! This is giving me some hope to the diagnosis!

Update: I am not on uc meds at the moment because after my c diff infection (that happened the same time my uc was diagnosed), the GI put my on asacol and I had severe breathing problems. I was doing ok, so he didnt put me on any thing else.

I tried 2 of the prep H supposatories and I actually think it made it worse, plus they wouldn't stay in. Also, I seem to have stomach pains after eating or drinking anything.

So you think I should try the Rowasa? I do have some from Sept.. I don't know if that's ok or not.

I am calling the GI again tom. When I asked the secretary earlier today about seeing another GI in the practice who had an earlier opening, she got crabby and said that they "don't share patients" and that my GI wouldn't take me back after that. Uh, childish! I don't care who sees me as long as I get this resolved!

I just don't think its a hem b/c I'm not itchy, it doesnt hurt to have a bm, and I don't remember straining. Thanks for the replies everyone!

update: im falling apart by the minute! My rectal pain was down about two notches today when I woke up, so I wanted to wait it out before calling the GI. However, I have had SEVERE back pain all day. It is really bad...I had back surgery in 2005 and haven't had horrible pain like this since. I have not been to the gym (I go regularly) since before New Yrs Eve, so this definitely came out of nowhere. Could this be related to these stomach issues?

Also, in September, they found a 1 inch cyst on my right ovary and decided just to watch it and hope for it to dissolve. I don't know if this is causing the pain or not. According to the gyno, a cyst that small isn't likely to cause back pain and other symptoms. Who knows.

My rectal pain is dull but I do have gas and mucus mixed into my stool. The pain seems to be worse after I eat or drink.

If my back is the same in the am, I am definitely calling my doc. I appreciate any thoughts! Thanks!

I have lumbar and cervical issues and they say UC aggravates spinal issues. Hang in there and get to the doc for some good UC meds (oral and rectal)

Low back pain can also be caused by colon inflammation. When I was flaring badly, I used to refer to it as "that horse standing on my back."
